Is it only the G05 that cannot disable ASS anymore?
So much regret doing the OTA update, can no longer disable ASS. Is it only the G05 that cant be disabled? Seems like there are no issues disabling it on the 5 series.

With full awareness that my comment may dtrir up some dust or irritate some ppl; let me ask why do you want it disabled?
I am genuinely amazed how well implemented a-s-s is in the current G05 - a vast improvement over my prior car (2021 G11 7 series), and light years ahead of what I had in my 2015 F10 5 series In the current car I hardly notice the engine kicking back to life, I don’t experience any body shudder or any annoying noises (all of which were the downsides of a-s-s implementations in the prior cars). Zero reasons to complain, and in fact just some reasons to appreciate this gadget as it seriously improves fuel efficiency (80-90% of my mileage is city driving)

I can feel it, and me no likely. If it works for you great, doesn't work for me. Fortunately, I'm in the M, and I'm always on M1 or M2, problem solved.

I didn’t notice the a/c to work any differently when the a-s-s cuts out the engine… but, I get your point. To each their own

The a/c on the PHEV is an electric compressor…so, it works just fine when the ICE is running or not! But, I think you’ll find more and more companies on more and more vehicles that will be disabling the ASS, as it affects their corporate average fuel economy, which keeps being mandated to improve. This is also driving them to improve the performance of that functionality. Some have a very long ways to go in that department, but the newest BMWs are pretty good compared to some others.

They are not under any regulatory requirements in the US with regard to ASS other than the car default to the mode or condition in which it was tested at each startup. That mode/condition includes start/stop if it was used during testing. So used during testing = must default to on at each startup.
The testing is done on a dyno, and the way the loop is set up, ASS helps generate better numbers. Those numbers don't translate very well in the real world where its benefit is often marginal, but it's effective on the dyno, and those are the numbers that matter to the manufacturer. Realistically, they could have left ASS and some other tidbits they will never monetize, out of the walled garden. They would remain in compliance and customers could have what they want. |

It's not a regulatory requirement, which is what I was talking about.
In any event the off-cycle crediting program is used to identify and define technologies that deliver real-world benefits but are not adequately demonstrated on the official test cycle, it's why they're called off-cycle credits. ASS is considered fully demonstrated during the test cycle if it is used, and can't generate off-cycle credits. |

I can disable this annoying thing in my '18 G30, which I always do. I cannot see how this can be good for the starter. Off/on/off/on in city.Wouldn't it be a lot of wear and tear? I'm thinking of moving to a G05 but I'm not sure there's any "tricky" way to disable the ASS.

The only time it uses the starter is during cold starts. After the engine is warm it uses the hybrid system to start the engine. So as far as the main starter goes it should be okay from wear and tear if that's what you were concerned with. This is at least what I've read.

So it is a myth that ASS will wear battery and alternator down quickly? Thats the only thing yhing I am concerned about although compared to my other cars and last X3, 2024 X5 ASS is not that intrusive. Hopefully that is a fact as I plan to keep this car long term.
