For those of you M60i drivers I found the C/D review of the '24 Cayenne S to be interesting particularly the specs and most notably the $134k price of the tested car. I'm still very happy that I went with the M60i. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...d%20Last%2030D

Interesting to see this as I was cross-shopping the cayenne s with the X5 M60i. I have to admit the exhaust on those Porsche V8’s sounds sooo damn good. Really wish the M60i’s sounded more like it. However, I’m happy I went with the BMW.

"Dedicated physical climate controls and hand-adjustable HVAC vents are two welcome changes. The prominent central touchscreen is largely the home of the infotainment system, with only lesser-used vehicle settings buried within."
Perhaps in response to the Euro NCAP requirements although I would image the design was baked by the time those came out.

That exhaust note (lack of) is the only thing I dislike about the M60i. You get a nice growl on a cold start but that's it. I've mostly gotten over it and try to focus on the car's superb performance.

I owed a 2011 Cayenne S. It was a great, solid, sporty and powerful vehicle until it wasn’t. I had major drivetrain issues that required me to get rid of it. The story was that the drivetrain was not configured properly for the engine size and that the oil in the transfer case broke down causing the parts to grind. Eventually Porsche owned up to it but when I owned it they didn’t. They said it was a “out out warranty” wear and tear repair. The car had less than 60,000 miles on it. I will never go back for the reason of their lack of support to the issue. In my experience, BMW stands behind their vehicles.

I’ll do the subtitles…
Vroom vroooooooommmmmm VVVVRRRROOOOOOOMMMM too bad, though. In the good old days of nickelodeons, there used to be orchestras providing live music to accompany the silent movies. I fear there’ll be no orchestra in this case

The comparison isn't exactly apples to apples though, since the Cayenne S Coupe is running Pirelli PZC4 tires. These tires would be similar to the Michelin PS4S.
Even with better tires, the M60i won't be able to get a similar number though. The X5 is massive, I think a couple of inches taller than the Cayenne Coupe |

relatively modestly optioned M60i for me is ~$13K less than a cayenne S.
To me, the M60i as a sort of M is still more special. the cayenne is stylistically boring to me esp at >$100k it has no road presence.

I actually think the Cayenne is maybe a little better car than the 60i, but just a hair, primarily because you get better driving feel and more options to make it your own. No way it's worth 34k more than the 60i as I configure them. I'd pay a little more, but not much. Looking at it the other way, at 110k a Cayenne is massively outgunned in the features department against what is a completely loaded 60i. No chance I buy there either. Alternatively, you could get a loaded X5M with enough left over to throw in the stupidly overpriced M performance exhaust and your still under that 144k mark. Wasn't hard for me to figure out which way I wanted to go. |

Yes the Cayenne S might be a slightly better car but not $20k better. Much of the like/dislike for a particular vehicle is subjective. The S doesn’t have the presence of the M60i styling wise IMO but the Pcar afficenados will say differently. And most of us will never test it's limits on a 300’ diameter skidpad so what does it matter. At the $100k++ price point, value plays a lesser role but in this class of performance SUVs it’s hard to beat the total package and value of the BMW X5 M60i. Much like the Corvette is the best overall performance and value play amongst sports cars. BTW, I’ve has two Cayennes, one base and one S.

Exactly the same, shopped the cayenne, actually had a deposit down, agree the sound is much, much better, the dash screen(s) were a turn off, 3 year maint. adds another $4k vs free. Porsche does still have a "button" for start/stop! Was a MB driver but the gle 63 clocked in at $157k and their quality has been on the decline for years. I happily went back to bmw ('23 z4 for her, '24 m60i for him). Like u very happy with the choice!

Regarding the M60i exhaust sound (or lack of), I ordered acoustic glass on my car to protect me from outside sounds and I'm glad it does. I had a GLC43 when they first became available and there was a constant "buzz" noise in the cabin and it was shall we say irritating.

I’ve been a Porsche owner for over 20 years, (2) Cayenne’s, a 2006 S and a 2010 GTS, great vehicles. Also owned (2) Macans, a 2015 S and a 2018 GTS. I really do miss the steering feedback/feel of the Porsches (and also the exhaust sound) but the prices and maintenance costs have just gotten out of hand, esp when I can get a healthy discount (and $4k military off top) on the BMW that I can’t get on the Porsche. It’s nice to have multiple BMW dealers w/in 100 miles so there’s at least a little competition. I wouldn’t kick a Cayenne out of the garage but for now I’ll live with the X5. The 997 Cab will continue to give me my P car fix.
