Game and console suggestions to learn Nurburgring?

Hey all,

I was wondering anyone could suggest a good game to learn the Nurburgring?

I may have an opportunity to drive on it (extended stay in Germany) and wanted to spend some time ahead of time to practice.

Not sure if there are any PS4 or Xbox One titles with the track yet, I haven't kept up at all so that's why I'm asking now.

Also, ideally the games won't require a ton of time to earn (via license or experience) to get to drive on it, either!

Thanks in advance

The only experience I've had with that track recently is Forza 4 and Gran Turismo 6. I would suggest Gran Turismo if you're going more the simulator route, at least on consoles.

Nah gran turismo stop being after gran turismo 4. The leader and most realistic now it's either fm4 or fm5

Maybe on consoles. Overall, neither of them stand a chance against the PC.

Not true at all. I have both games, a pretty good setup (all fanatec clubsport gear), and have a fair amount of real world track experience and the GT series is more realistic when it comes to driving feel. The only place where you can say Forza does a better job is graphics (though debatable) and definitely the sounds.

Forza 5 does not have the ring yet. Forza 4 does.

Any suggestions for a PC game for learning the N-Ring? Nordschleife loop in particular? Thanks.

I can't say I have very much experience when it comes to PC simulators, but I do plan to get Project Cars when that's released. From what I've read, Gran Turismo 5 and rFactor/rFactor 2 [PC] are quoted the most when it comes to accuracy of the 'Ring, even including bumps in the road where it would normally be in real life.

If we're talking console, Forza Motorsport 5 without a doubt. The Nurburgring was released as a free download earlier this summer. The Forza team literally spent months upon months designing the track to be the most realistic simulation of the 'Ring possible. Everything was laser scanned down to the cm. Definitely worth a try.

Wait for Project Cars which will be released for PC, Xbox One and PS4. They are working on Nurburgring.

As of right now, for PC I hear Assetto Corsa is good - more on simulation than arcade like. Otherwise I second Project Cars (even though game isn't out yet, its looking to be the base racer ever made).

Available now for cheap though, I strongly recommend Need for Speed Shift or Shift 2. The biggest seller NFS Shift provides over Gran Tursimo and Forza is the sensation of speed... and the fear that goes with it. The game is about 60% arcade, 40% simulation. This is the only game I know that made me scared going flat out even if I was using a controller.

Something like Project Cars or Assetto Corsa (when it comes out) is what you are probably looking for. I don't know if any other racing games have the Nurburgring, I know Forza does, but thats on the Xbone...

Lol, this is a 3 year old thread..

But, my favorite is Project Cars. Project Cars 2 just came out, too.

Assetto Corsa. It's the most realistic thing you'll find anywhere especially on console. Forget everything else it all sucks. Rfactor can have good physics in some situations but it's PC only and less polished. iRacing has notably worse physics than AC but much better online competition which is good for getting you fast.

You also need a good wheel and durable pedals. I have a T500RS which is about as low end as you should consider.

Speaking of getting fast, to learn the track you'll need to drive it a lot. I have hundreds of laps of the Nordschleife full track and am a specialist but not yet an expert. I don't even know all the corner names but I know most of them. You need to live and breathe the ring for a while to get fast on it.

Grand Prix Legends from 1998. It was way ahead of its time. I have not played in several years. It had the old track layout from 1967. I still have my old racing pod in the basement. I guess I should pass it on to someone who races on PCs/Consoles.

I will say that no video games will prepare you for the nurburgring. I drove it in games then drove it in real life. You can't get a feeling for the elevation changes, the surface changes and the differences in temperature and traction that can exist on the track (it can be bright and sunny on one side of the track and damp and cold on the other side). You really just need to go and drive it.

I will say that I drive it a lot better in games now that I've been there in real life.
