The Porsche is a true sports car. Its suspension is a little softer than the 911's but you would not know that by driving it. Its an amazing vehicle. Its problems are as a long distance driver its not the most comfortable and its a little small. Also, for its price, it should be making more power than it does. I know what Porsche did not give it more power (it would rival the 911) I just think that, for my $60,000+ I better be making serious power. Otherwise I would simply buy a last gen 911 Turbo for the same money and enjoy 415 AWD hp. Then mayb talk to the good people at Tech Art and see about upping that number by a couple hundred...

My dad had one as a daily driver, its a great car but a stiff suspension

As a 335i owner who's driven a Cayman S, I say let dad have his Porsche, he won't regret it.

I have a 335i and I'm trying to dump it to get into a Cayman S. The Cayman is far superior to the 335, so long as you don't need 4 seats. I also test drove an M3 last week, thinking that I may prefer it to a Cayman. I wasn't impressed the the M3 at all. I actually like the 335 more than the M3.

Cayman S is a sports car; the 335i isn't. I test drove the Cayman last week and loved the handling but missed the low end torque of the 335i. I'm much happier with my 4 dr, 4 seat torquey 335i! It's alot cheaper too..

Cayman S is the most fun car i have ever driven. I highly suggest it. If it had a bit more HP i would get it over the new m3 anyday of the week

If I didn't want the 4 seats, or the convertible top, I would have 100% went for the Cayman with DCT. Or saved a bunch of money and got a 08 6-speed Cayman S.

It's a great looking vehicle, a coworker has the GTS. From the reviews that I've read, it may not be worth the $$$. But again, I've found on the web, it isn't always about that.

I remember in the review they tried the manual 6 speed and felt they'd be better off with the auto.

People calling the BMW superior to a Cayman for pure sport driving are blind Bimmer loyalists. There's a guy with a stock Cayman S at our BMWRCCA club and he consistently kills respectable M3 drivers at our autocross.

You have to do a lot of suspension work and weight loss to get an E9x close to the handling of the Cayman S. That said, the 335 is such a great DD, way less expensive, and our N54 engines are so much fun. Too bad the Z2 is so far off (2013) or I would suggest that monster.

The Cayman S is an amazing car. For me it was between the Cayman S base and the 335 completely loaded (and then the leftover amount would go towards new wheels).

The Cayman S is a fun car to drive. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it's designed for one person only (extremely cramped) and it's very loud inside on the lower gears. I would totally buy the Cayman S as a fun car (actually I plan on looking it again for a fun car in the near future).

One of the best things about the Cayman S is that it's easily tunable and can actually give the 911 a run for its money.

I take it OP's dad has another car to drive (e.g. in the winter, long trips, etc) so the Cayman S would be perfect.

It took 29 posts for someone to point this out? To the OP, you would be better served asking your question on the Porsche forums.

Personally, as far as I'm concerned, the Porsche lineup starts at the 911.

In reality, a Porsche is more of an Ultimate driving machine than a BMW. Of course, BMW is more practical. A Porsche never is (the SUV doesn't count). The new 4 door is interesting, of course very expensive.

If you get a Porsche, you'd better row your own gears.

Get the Cayman S.

I don't think the cayman comes in a GTS model - that would be the cayenne.
