Exactly why I want the digital key on my X5 or on my iPhone. When I go to the gym or out running I would prefer her not to carry that heavy key remote.

My key card on back order. As iPhone can't have the digital key (yet!), I going to place the card between my case and phone. I'm hoping that it works, charges the phone and recognises the keycard when in the tray.

Got this in an email on 5/11/19. Looks like the first Keycard can be ordered for free.

I asked my dealer about this last week. Every X5 comes with a key card AND two fobs. It has to be actived via the connect, or I think it can be activated at the dealer.
I should get my car this week so I have peppering my SA with questions. |

Picked up a key card yesterday at my dealer. Have not really tried using it. But will this weekend when I go running. Much easier to have the card in my running shorts.

What problem are you having? The steps in the manual worked fine for me. Just set the card in the charging slot and you should be good to go with activating/pairing it following the same steps as a Digital Key except of course no codes are involved.

The key card was in my car when I picked it up. It has to stay on its tray because that is the card reader.
It is invisible. Check to see if you have one. I leave it in my car at all times, and it doesn’t affect locking. |

Uhm, you probably should NOT leave an activated (if it's activated) key card in the car at all times. It makes sense that it doesn't affect locking, but if for some reason your car is left unlocked, that makes it rather trivial to drive away with it if the key card is inside.

Dumb question. BMW will provide a physical key card and a digital key for cell phone? Is the physical key card free of charge? Some said yes and some not.

The physical card is free. You may have been reading about early builds where it wasn’t available yet so people could purchase them after the became available.

It lives on the little charging tray in the front compartment. It’s impossible to see, and some people didn’t realize they have one. But once it is activated it can be used to unlock and start it, so I don’t keep mine in the car. |

My car was built in October '18. Genius saying that cars before December don't have access to the digital key yet. Need to wait on the program for the ones built prior to December '18. Patiently waiting.

Are you talking about the digital key for your phone or the physical key card? The physical card has been available for early build for about 6 months or so. I thought I read the digital key for your phone is also available but someone who knows for sure can chime in. Probably easiest to call your dealer and have them order you one.

Edit: Here is the link to the discussion concerning these for early builds. They were available since early January. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...light=activate |
