X5 xDrive40i Individual Paint Order

Its almost that time, I'm torn between 40i and M50i but thats a separate conversation. If I go with the 40i I at least want to get a special individual paint on it to make up for the lack of the V8 and DHP

My question here is can you orders the serial ind paints such as tanzanite blue and ametrin as a special order since theyre no longer "standard" upgrades on the 40i? Also, if I want a true individual paint such as Grigio Telesto how would I go about having that put on my build since I cannot send a build with it to the dealer? Does he have to manually go in and put in the color code?

Sorry I can't answer your question. I came here looking for same answer...and 40i vs M50i....and Grigio Telesto Pearl (I'd get Dravit with M50i).

Anyway, BMW USA has a link to 'BMW Individual' under the BMW Experience at the bottom of the page. But there is no link from that page to the Individual Visualizer...

https://visualizer.bmw-individual.co...=en&dc=1-1#top

I did see in the BMW Individual Build, that the 40i is in the drop down selection. I just don't know how or if the CA can order these?

Lastly, I was at the Buena Park BMW in late December 2020 and they had an X5 M50i on the floor with Grigio Telesto Pearl. I was told it was a dealer Demo from factory.

Let us know what you find out. TIA

Your sales associate could submit your build with special request for TB2 or Ametrin but the Individual Manufaktur special paints program for X5/6/7 SAVs were specifically for 490 paints and not serial paints (SABI / Priority 1).

Not all dealers or SA's are knowledgeable on the Individual program for BMW.

Your SA will need to reach out to BMWNA ordering (previous process) or factory ordering to submit documentation and details required for your special paint order. There's a lead time of around 11 weeks and $5K for paint. You'll need to confirm your spec and I'm sure your dealer will require some time of commitment. Once ordered your are locked in - so make sure sure that the paint you're requesting is the one.

I ordered an Individual X5 40i two weeks ago (Daytona Violet) for my wife. The dealer had to adjust the build on their end for the individual order. The dealer required me to put down a $5,000 non-refundable deposit on the order.

Does the individual color also delay the delivery of the car? I understand that individual color options delay at least two months the car.

Thank you all for the informative responses.

I am under the impression that the SA I have been dealing with for the past couple of cars has no idea about how to order individual paints (I believe most of us here know more about BMW options than most of the SA out there. If I can order TB for the same $1,950 price tag as it is on the M50i I may go with the 40i with TB (although no DHP or leather dashboard would haunt me).

Ja, majority of dealers aren't familiar the Individual program or have never ordered Individual vehicle for a customer. TBH not many consumers go into a BMW dealership looking to customize - it's a very small percentage of consumers that do at least in the USA.

As mentioned earlier, there might be a slim chance you can order Priority One TB2 for your 40i but there's a high chance it won't go through. When BMWNA removes an option for 40i and 45e and limits to M50i - seems silly but they don't make exceptions. Pretty much if the forum gets wind of it, LOL.

TBH I'd recommend ordering the vehicle you want - get the M50i, especially if you want 4M5, ZDH. The 490 paints are nice but that's $5K towards a truly performance SAV that's close to a ///M

This is definitely the case at most dealerships. When I ordered my M340i, my CA told me to be patient since dealers rarely do orders for individual colors and it is a learning experience for all of them.

I would imagine the very large, high volume dealerships have a better handle on the process and can maybe even get orders through that others can't.

This +1

Large high volume dealerships that cater to regional markets with affluent owners will have expertise and established relationships to handle the extensive process. For the latest Individual paint program for X5/6/7 SAVs it's a learning experience for all.

I use two out of state dealers - one I'll contact for lease deals and the other for factory custom Individual Manufaktur.

My CA (client advisor who is very experienced in Individual paint orders) placed my Individual special order paint on 21 Jan and was approved by BMW 22 Jan. Today 30 Mar my vehicle status went 150/Production Started. Build/final assemble is scheduled for BMW production week 15 (April 11-17).

So 9 weeks and a fews day from acceptance to production start for my SO paint. Likely 11 weeks and a few days to production completion. I expect to get an exact build day and VIN sometime in the next week.

Surprisingly I heard the news from my CA today and checked MyBMWGarage and it was up to date with "production started" status as well.

Curious... how are you checking the status of your build in the MyBMW Garage without a VIN? I've always had to enter a VIN in order to get my build to show there.

You can start tracking once you get your production number. When a VIN is then assigned it automatically will be displayed.

Thanks for the update. I ordered an individual color X5 on March 1st (Daytona Violet) which is still in Order Received status. I've been checking twice per day. Based on your timeline, I guess I should reset my expectations!

Yep you’ll have to chill for another 4 weeks. It was extremely hard not to check with my CA earlier - I held out to week 8. He was great and notified me the day it hit 150. He says he checks everyday for custom order 150 status.

thanks

I"m ordering a 45e, and would totally pay the $5k but I don't really want to wait another 11 weeks for that.

I don't care much about the LCA that's kinda lame anyway.

Before I got mine I thought it was a gimmick and wouldn't be using it. Turns out I now use it for almost 100% of the lane changes I make. It works very well.

Received our VIN today. Confirmed for PCD 4 May. Production Week 15 (11-17 April) expecting a firm production day from my CA any day now. Planning to meander around GSM NP and BRP for a week before turning West for more meandering back to AZ.

Thanks for sharing! I have a production Week 16 build date so now I can set my expectations for when I'll receive my VIN accordingly.
