Delivery questions regarding out-of-state purchase
My wife's X5 is ready for delivery from Spartanburg ... "Awaiting carrier assignment"
We live in Houston, Texas. We ordered the X5 through [an amazing] dealership in Virginia. I was informed that the X5 will be delivered to the dealership in Virginia because the local dealers didn't want to cooperate. The Virginia dealer offered to ship the X5 to me. I am not completely certain, but I think they are going to cover the cost of shipping. Does anybody have experience with delivery from out of state? My wife knows she is getting an X5, but she thinks it is going to be Carbon Black. I changed the order to Tanzanite Blue which is what she really wanted. All that to say, I am trying to keep that a secret. I hope she doesn't figure it out when she signs the paperwork. The paperwork will be mailed to us via FedEx overnight... We sign with notary then send the paperwork back to the dealership in Virginia. Here is what I am wonder:

It should be delivered directly to you since the local dealership is not involved. Since all of the paperwork would have been completed, I don't see a need for her to be present for delivery.

I had my X6 shipped from a dealer in Mississippi. You will have to pay for the transportation upfront. Unless you have it worked into your deal. My dealer arranged for transportation and gave me the option of covered or uncovered. It was on a regular car transporter so he couldn't deliver it to my residence. I had to meet him in a large parking lot. I inspected the vehicle for damage, there was none. I signed the transporter's phone and he handed over the keys. Simple as that. It was a 8 hr trip and the driver contacted me when he got on the road, mid-way, and when he arrived. Great guy!

That's mostly based on when people opt into the delivery availability schedule. I've not found any hard and fast rule (ie there's no 2 week rule) - if I was able to do a Tuesday pickup my complete to PCD would have been <1wk from build complete, but sadly I couldn't do a Tuesday so I had to add another 10days to line up with my travel schedule and baby care time.
