Bad idea but at the age of 73 I am into cash 90% the chances of a major major correction occurring in the next couple of years is over the top high.

Age isn't a factor for guys like warren buffet but when you're worth billions your investment strategy might be slightly different.

I would love that option as I would rather pay taxes now instead of what we will have later.

I think I'm at 10% in my program at work just to get the company match. Anyone who has an employer match offering should at least max that part out even if their selection of investments are limited.

My company actually offers some decent options....but even then you can only do so well. I think YTD I'm about 28% return.

Then I contribute to a Roth and Spousal Roth IRA. At least with those you can be more specific and get better returns.

Also at tax time....I see what I have left to cap out our contribution for the year and do that in one lump sum if there is any room left.

If we're only talking about 5 figures, I'll make it easy for you:

90% in a Vanguard S&P 500 index fund. Take the remaining 10% and put in one of those other funds. Simple, effective, and lucrative in the long term.

Even 6 figures + I would say the same. I really like vanguards "total stock market" fund/etf.

Agreed. Overall - simply ETF's are by far the best and easier way to increase wealth over time for most folks.

It could be because my employer puts my money there but it looks to me as though there some pretty nice Fidelity funds too. They're competing hard on price.
