On a German board there was also talk about different certificates for the NFC reader inside the door handle. So an actual hardware difference between before and after 07/20 models. So even with all the coding skills in the world it's most certainly not possible

This is not correct. Smart Access 1.5 can be coded and will work on older G05 including MY19.

This has been tested with DK 1.0. All BMW internal literature confirms DK 1.5 is supported on older models with SA1.5 but there is no decision to allow retrofit as yet.

That said, as DK1.5 requires ConnectedDrive activation by BMW, I doubt anyone has tested the configuration yet.

If true, thats a massive kick in the balls for everyone who has the capability (hardware, software, phone etc) but their build date is pre 07/2020. BMW marketing even seem to be in the dark on what works and what wont.
