New X5 50 e on boat to Europe too late to cancel ?

My new vehicle is on the boat from the States and after reading all the negative posts re engine warning lights coming on mostly re CEL issues and production stopping (perhaps for alterations to rectify problems) the excitement of picking the car is not what it should be.
The car has cost 117000 euros in Portugal (98000 plus options) and I have bought the car as a retirement present for road trips across Europe and therefore do not want to get stranded.
I assume it’s too late to withdraw from accepting the vehicle ? (I have only paid 5000 euros deposit) and would appreciate if you could give me comfort that I am worrying for no reason.
This is my first BMW and understand a lot of posts on here relate to disappointed customers posting for help.
Fingers crossed I get replies from happy customers and problems are not appearing in the majority of the new 50e’s.

Your poll results will be meaningless given the built in bias of forums. The percentage of members with problems will be overstated.

As far as whether it is too late to cancel, that is going to be up to the laws/regulations in your country/local area. In the US it can be cancelled at any time prior to delivery. In some parts of Europe it is binding when you order it.

While the percentage of folks experiencing a problem with the 50e is a lot higher than it should be, I would say go ahead with your purchase. If you run into a problem it can be fixed under warranty. As far as getting stranded goes, you will be retired so it it happens enjoy the unexpected stay/journey.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Your view on the rate of these issues is unfortunately subject to some bias due to human nature and internet forums. Remember owners don't tend to post that they have no issues. It's the other way around, if there is an issue they want guidance, support and to understand how it was resolved for others with the same issue so they take to the internet and forums such as these.

The 50e is a great car; I wouldn't cancel!

People have reported CEL coming on for cars even made in December, so the issues still seem to be effecting production. The problem is that not all cars are effected. I would even suggest it’s a small subset. My 50e was made in August and has had no such CEL issues. I suspect many or most cars are not affected by the CEL problem, but nevertheless you could be unlucky.

My car has had a few functional issues though but seem to be related to software glitches and bugs rather than hardware issues.

I also think that bmw design and production quality has got worse since my last 2018 BMW, but I seem to say that with each new car I get.

I don’t regret getting the 50e, but if I did it again, I wouldn’t bother with the hybrid now and just go all EV. The hybrid power train is overly complex and there is a good chance something is going to go wrong with it in the end.

Given the high demand/low supply for hybrids I'd think the dealer could sell the vehicle quickly should you cancel. But I would not cancel and lose 5,000 euro. As many have said there is a definite bias towards problems on every automotive forum. Take a quick read on rennlist and you'll see many complaints/delays relative to the Cayenne hybrid. Don't let the complaints scare you off. I'd say that 98% ++ of the 2024 X5 hybrids are trouble free.

I would guess much lower than that, maybe 75 - 80%. I'm going to have to create that thread I have been thinking about that may get us some data.

I’ll betcha a Colorado Kool-Aid it’s 90%++. Very difficult to get reliable data in part because many 50e owners are not forum participants.
