I just got a local customer dropped of his X6M to be worked on.
When I was about to pull it in, I heard a very familiar noise coming from the rear.
I decided to take it around the parking lot, and yes, it is the dreaded sway bar link noise.

Car still stock height.
Will install MSS tomorrow and put extra torque on the rear sway bar link.
Thanks Ben. My shop said they did extra torque but after a day I heard the sound again. Wonder if torque wasn't enough. Pls let us know what you find out. Thanks in advance.
Hmm, need to check with them what is the torque that they put.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna check the gapping between the sway bar link to the lower arm.
I will cross check with the data that QF8 gave me.
If there is consistency on the gap, then I'll see if there is a part that we all can obtain easily and fix this issue for good.

That's good to hear.
That shim part number is internal use only. I can't find it in BMW parts catalog.

BMW put out a fix just over a week ago.. 1st March
They install a washer in the lower sway bar link attachment to remove the play.

For those who have 1k or so miles riding on the MSS: how much do these springs settle?

1/8 of an inch or so. Car gets squirly and needs an alignment. You'll know when it's ready.

same for me, a-just-about-noticeable-drop after about 750 miles since install, variety of 30 / 50 / 70 mph roads, some smooth, some bumpy, some twisty.

i did smile when i took the car to the shop to have the head lights and tail lights tinted, and mentioned the springs had been replaced ... the shop mechanic said "wow, how big was the gap BEFORE the new springs"!!

Ok. Just finished a local X6MC.
Did the 100Nm torque, but driver side still clicking.
So I tried to use 1mm shim, and it didn't fit.
Finally found some 0.2mm shim, then torqued it 100Nm.
Noise is gone.

Someone gotta start a lawsuit against BMW on this.
I am confident that the issue is at the lower arm.
It is a stamped process and welded rib cage.
So, the gapping to where the sway bar link is sitting not always the same per car.

But, other than that, it comes out very good with 25mm all around and my painted front reflector in Marina Bay Blue.

Looks a ton better, thanks for sharing!

My local dealer said the knocking issues w/ the stock rear swaybar needs to be rectified by ordering a new swaybar & related parts. Two weeks for delivery and they'll call me back in.

This is despite giving them the info QF8 shared with me :

I also shared my plans to install my MSS springs this Monday, and they agreed to work on my knocking noises whenever the parts come in.

Either they're taking an obtuse, roundabout way to fix this issue or perhaps there's a new fix? I'm betting on the former...

I'll share updates or how it ends when the car goes back

Superb for sharing and even more superb for your diligent work Ben

I'll have Keith give this a shot when I go in for my MSS installation this Monday. If we have success, I'll figure something out with the dealer with inbound parts or worse-comes-to-worse, I'll go through the motions by going back for their alleged fix. In the case of the latter, I hope they don't screw things up

I wonder if its limited to those that had it when the car was stock only. My car is a 3/2020 build and never had the noise before MSS. So far 300miles in with MSS no noise yet either.

Same here I just passed 500 miles with MSS. No noise before or after.

@QF8 shop installed 1mm shim.
I can't get 1mm shim in there, but I managed to put 2x 0.2mm shim in there.

It seems like the gapping are not consistent.
Because, some can be solved by adding more torque, QF8 uses 1mm shim, I used 0.4mm shim.

I am still looking for it.
The one that I used was from some extra shims laying around from Wilwood brake kit.
