I've been toying with upgrading my Hifi system too. Yet, I'm concerned that if I would upgrade amp and speakers, I'd still lack true surround sound.

Wondering is it possible to add hardware and speakers to rear/D pillar location (where HK rears would be located) in the vehicle somehow?

Anything is possible with enough $ and skill . Below are links to the part numbers for the speakers, mounts, and pillar trim. The question becomes does a HiFi audio system already have the wiring for the D-pillar speakers. If not, it seems BMW only sells complete audio wiring harnesses, which are $750+.

D-Pillar Trim G05 (scroll down to #9 in the list, pick your color).

That would be interesting If the wiring was there. Is anyone adventurous enough to remove the panel and check?

Yep-thanks for the providing the info. Just seeing all these part numbers makes me believe it’s gonna be spendy. But without D-pillar speakers-I feel surround sound will be lacking. Glad to know amp may be good upgrade worth considering.
