tell me I'm going to love it - m60i

I made a mistake.

I bought a 23 Infiniti QX60 autograph.
A month later I bought a Porsche Macan S.

Now I own a car that's too big and floaty and another that's too small and expensive. Both the Infiniti and Porsche dealers are out of town for me and a 200 mile round trip. Washing 2 cars, insuring 2 cars, maintenance on 2 cars...I'm over it.

I'm looking for the goldilocks SUV to replace both of them with: right size, right power and handling AND a dealer in town.

So I drove the X5 m60i and it's beautiful. But after this disaster of a situation I got myself into, I'm worried I'm making another car mistake. See, I'm sure I can let the QX60 go, but that stupid Porsche...that's another story. It's my first Porsche and I love it and I hate it. It's too small, too expensive, too outdated, and in so many ways just a stupid iteration of a car. I'm sorry, but it is! The sun visors don't slide. I have to hold down the memory seat button the entire time the seat is adjusting - you can't just press and let go. The technology sucks big time, the apple car play screen is too small, the 360 camera is dumb. Huge gloss black panel for the controls. The way the HVAC works doesn't make sense. There's a rattle in front and a rattle in the sunroof. And more that I won't list. But. BUT. It drives like no other car I've ever driven. The ride, handling and planted feel of the vehicle makes it truly an experience to drive one.

I really want the m60i to be the perfect replacement for these 2. Please tell me I'm going to love it. Or send me to the car that you think I will love....I can't afford to make another car buying mistake! My husband will kill me if I buy another car I hate, lol.

Edit to add: I have not purchased a m60i yet. Just considering it.

Give thanks that you have the money to make "mistakes"! In this day and age of rising interest rates and car costs many are struggling to pay for a full tank of gas.

I don't think you made a mistake. Can't go wrong with BMW.

I'm still stuck in the pre-LCI period. Just call me an old fart.

Can't say you'll love it. Kind of like a mattress commercial I just saw...
"What's the perfect mattress for me may not be the perfect mattress for you".
Hope u love it. Not much not to love on a $100+K BMW.

What I can say is you seem to be going through some expensive (and nice imho) cars in short order that seem to disappoint. Maybe do a bit more do dillagance (aka, research, thorough test drives, etc) before hand.

Good luck ...

Spoodle, After reading your story I would strongly suggest the X5/X6 M60i as a current owner of 3 months. It is the sweetspot in the G05/G06 lineup. You simply cannot go wrong with this vehicle. I absolutely love mine and I have had a ton of highline vehicles over many years.
I know what you are saying about the Macan. We have a '22 Macan GTS which replaces the Macan Turbo as the top of the line and ours is tuned with a Cobb Accessport and is extremely fast for an SUV, handles fantastic, but it is a little small and not a daily for me.
The M60i checks more boxes than I can count with its shining star being the all new S68 "M" engine that is shown to produce a stout 580HP in baseline testing that delivers a fabulous driving experience.
In a nutshell the M60i is a knockout on many levels. Be absolutely certain that none of the cheaper Asian stuff which is all mass market regardless of badging is going to compare with a BMW SUV,

Cars are a personal thing. Lots of folks own and love Infinitis and Porsches. Finding out that you're not among them is no big deal. I bought a MB G550 about 4 years ago, and enjoy it very much -- it's the ideal luxury SUV for year-round driving in Colorado. I bought an X7 for its space and lux for long road trips. I intend to keep both indefinitely.

As long as you're not taking financial hits, how can you not enjoy experiencing a variety of automobiles, especially lux class rides? But knowing that you're not a pickup guy or a Corvette guy helps!

Very odd ending sentence in your post. What is wrong with a guy who enjoys Corvettes?

X5 M60i owner since August 22 and loving everything about it. Seven wks order to delivery. Came from a 2020 Cayenne and don’t miss it at all. BMW technology, interior and exterior fit and finish is far superior to Porsche. It’s a well planted performance SUV that is a pleasure to drive everyday and in all conditions.

I traded in my 2018 X5 3.5 and 2020 M5 Comp on the M60i. I love the vehicle and have not regreted the move. Plenty of power and excellent handling. Hope you love it as much as we do.

I had a 2021 SQ8 and a 2023 AMG E53, and I can tell you that I’m thrilled with my x5 M60i. It’s a total sweet spot, and the technology is light years ahead of MB and Audi - not to mention exponentially more intuitive. Mine is very highly optioned. Including the Bowers and Wilkins, and I love the vehicle. You won’t be disappointed.

Since you don‘t like floaty car, just make sure to spec out M60i with optional Dynamic Handling Package. This will improve overall handling and cornering of the car.
Typically, dealer spec car do not include this package, so you will have to order one with it.

Absolutely nothing! Just not a car that would get me to Telluride and back in January (although a dedicated 'vette-head might try (lol)).

While M60i or is a very nice car, don't forget it is still an X5 which is heavy, big and wide. At 78.9", it is one of the widest car in the segment and it takes much of the width of the tiny lane we get here in the bay area. It is simply not comparable with a Macan which is small and agile; a X3 M40i is X3M IMO is comparable or even more fun to drive than a Macan S, but you will sacrifice on luxury and space; if you can wait another year, there is a new generation of X3 M50 coming.

We happen to own both a '24 X6 M60i and a '22 Macan GTS and can tell you without any question that the M60i is the far superior vehicle on many different levels. The Macan GTS is fun to drive but for a daily the M60i blows it away.

I had a 2020 Macan S that I modded pretty significantly and I would never go back. The Macan definitely has more peak grip and more "sports car" like handling - but the X5 is leaps and bounds more comfortable and roomy and I imagine it's a good middle ground between the infiniti and the porsche.

Your previous Infiniti was not in the same league as your new M60i, not even close. Macans are cool and really a raised, slightly softer version of a base 911 which is fine and dandy but not really what I want to jump into every day.
How is the JB4 treating you?

Hmm, what is your usage of these cars?

Let me assume you got QX60 because it is family car. I had a QX60 before, the model before yours. I do think QX60 isn't in the same league as BMW in term of luxury and driving dynamics. In fact, I will go as far to say none of the Japanese luxury brands compare to German luxury brands in these categories, but what Japanese wins is practicality and reliability. QX60 is, interior wise, also a significantly larger, both combined leg room and width. I often put two adult mountain bikes inside with front wheel off, and a bike trailer for my son (folded) with 3rd row folded. No way I can do it with X5, not even 1 adult mountain bike will go in with front wheel off unless I fold 2nd row. X5's interior space is actually small compare to what the exterior may suggested. Make sure you also check cargo space when you test drive. If you have rear facing car seat, maybe test fit that and try the seat in front as well.

Do you need trunk space? If you do, then the M60i will prob make you happy.

For me, I would of loved the Cayenne but the M50i was a better bang for the buck. In addition, the X5 offered a larger cargo capacity. I've already filled my trunk space on short road trips with my 2 kids. In the future, when my kids no longer need their strollers and pack n plays for vacations, I can get switch to a SUV with a smaller trunk space.
