BH's MY23 Phytonic Blue G05 BMW X5 xDrive 30d M Sport (UK Car)

Time to change my current G01 X3 for a bigger more powerful SUV
https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1668782

So after humming & harring between an Audi Q8 & a X5 I ordered a new factory order G05 BMW X5 xDrive 30d M Sport

Colour choice in the Uk is terrible IMHO - 3 blues, 2 whites, 2 blacks & a grey. So went for a blue altho it was a close call for another alpine white BMW

Did the whole best price on the internet thing & then hit my local BMW dealer (where I got the X3 from) with my best price
Long story short I got to the deal I was happy with
Less than week before I collected it I got an 'up lift' on my part ex price & BMW's finance was reduced
I managed to negotiate an equivalent high teens % off the retail price as well as other 'extra's' I got so happy enough with the deal as a whole

Very happy with the deal TBH

Spec.

MY23 G05 BMW X5 xDrive 30d M Sport (UK Car)
286ps (+11ps MHT) & 650nm torque
Phytonic blue metallic
Sports auto transmission
AWD
Coffee Sensafin upholstery
Aluminium Tetragon Interior Trim
BMW live cockpit professional with 12.3" instrument display & a 12.3" control high-res display with ID7

Options

22" Bicolour Double-spoke style 742 M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres - front 9.5J x 22 with 275/35 R22 tyres, rear 10.5J x 22 with 315/30 R22 tyres

M Sport Pro Pack
- Sun Protection Glass
- Active Protection
- M Sport Exhaust System
- BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line with extended contents
- M Sport Seat Belts
- M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers

Towbar, electrically folding

Standard spec among other things for UK vehicles

Front and Rear self levelling Air Suspension
Enhanced Bluetooth with Wireless Charging
High-Beam Assistant
Active Guard Plus
48V mild hybrid technology
Folding Side Mirrors with Auto-dimming
Electric Front Seats + Driver Memory

Been given a BW of 17th March with delivery another 8-10 weeks after that

Very excited - The wait begins ...

Hi Col,
Long time no speak, we PM'd quite a few times on the Detaling World forum.

Congratulations on your new X5 order, great spec too, if I remember correctly you cancelled your last order because of the suspension, am I right.

Plenty of photos when it arrives please, no doubt you've seen plenty of my X5 40i on the DW forum.

Are you having it ceramic coated or are you going to do it yourself.

Regards, Chris,

Regards, Chris,
Hope you are well & enjoying your X5 Chris
You a quite correct - I ordered a new X5 with air suspension & it came with adaptive due to the ‘chip shortage’
Dealer knew I wouldn’t take take it without air, so yup cancelled it
Trying again but not expecting any probs this time (fingers crossed)
Funny you should mention that seen your X5 on DW - ‘tis very nice indeedy!

Will be detailing it myself altho not looking foreword to that as the X5’s are quite big mutha’s lol

That's great news, looks like you won't be waiting the 8 months I did.

Yes they are big when it comes to cleaning them, I've got a small folding 'platform' so I can reach the roof. One good thing is that you can raise the ride height making it a bit easier to clean under the wheel arches.

Just had an update from my Sales guy

‘I have just received an update from BMWUK regarding your X5 build. Your car is now built and has left the port! It is currently at sea, I would expect to see the car in the next 3-4 weeks.’

Looks like I’m going to get it sooner than I expected - wahoo!

Congratulations Col, same colour as mine.

Looking forward to seeing some more pics on DW once you've given it a proper detailing.

Some updates today -

Centre armrest tidy courtesy of AliExpress

Boot liner courtesy of eBay from the same manufacturer as the one I had in my previous X3

(Needs some heat/warmth on it to sort the wrinkles out as its been rolled up in a box)

Genuine BMW All Season (for that read rubber) interior mats front & rear courtesy of the supplying dealer

Door sill protection removed from front & rear

When the protection was removed I had a pleasant surprise that they are actually illuminated, well the centre M bit is

The coffee sensafin takes on different shades. Definitely not as dark as it is in the online configurator. I like it! Congrats!

1000'ish mile report

It sure is a big mutha, however it hides its size well when driven
As I came from the current X3 its fairly easy to compare

For starters - for a big SUV it is very quick - quoted 0-60mph is 5.8secs & it feels it
I'll time it when I've got more miles on it

The 10 speaker 205w Hi-Fi sound system is more than adequate - definitely a massive improvement
MMI screen is defo higher definition
Normally I would always choose black interiors so choosing the coffee one was a little out of my comfort zone but nontheless a nice change from black
Air suspension is great, however the ride is definitely harder on 22's with 30 & 35 section tyres, however there is suprisingley little tyre noise at motorway speeds
Wheels are a PITA to clean, speaking of which the X5 takes ages to clean & when you do like today it flaming well rains when you've finished

With it having mild hybrid technology I can't turn the stop/ start off (did I ever mention i hate S/S with a passion) so getting used to driving with it - do I like it any better? Hell no!

Couple of things that are taking some getting used to -
Freewheeling/coasting function - still feels a bit weird when it clicks in
Lane departure warning - strange if you haven't experienced it before - & yes I know I can turn it down / off but whats the point in having it & turning it off - its a safety feature after all

Best mpg so far - 83 mile run, 80% motorway , majority on cruise control (yes I'm lazy lol) at indicated 75mph (actual 73mph) - 46.2mpg which ain't to bad for a 2+ tonne SUV with a 3litre 6 cylinder diesel engine
Getting around 38-40mpg around town
These figures may improve a little as the miles go on

Still haven't had time to detail it yet as I have a lot going on at home at the mo so its a wash & a QD

Still yet to tow with the X5

We seem to get plenty of compliments about the colour & the colour of the interior
The size of those back tyres still make me sweat a little about replacement ops:

Thanks for reading (y)

I'm pleased your enjoying your new X5 Col.

I know what you're staying about the stop/start system, when I had my Nissan Qashqai I used to turn it off at the beginning of every journey but now I'm getting used to it on the X5 I quite like it.

Somehow forgot to mention the electric folding towbar I spec'ed

https://youtube.com/shorts/C5D0w0lOZiI?feature=share

Factory tow bar comes with a few additional things too -
Extra engine & gearbox cooling
Tow ball camera (X3 had this & its great for reversing up to hitch)
Trailor Stability Control
Brake bias changes to rear wheels when hooked up
Switches off parking sensors when hooked up
Disables lane departure warning
You can't open boot remotely has to be done with boot switch

140kg noseweight (tongue weight) limit with a 3500kg towing limit
