Thanks TJ for the confirmation. Was trying out building an X5 in BMW AU official website, it appears that "BMW Live Cockpit Professional" doesn't include Gesture Control anymore, such a shame.

Well this is interesting. According to the configurator, the gesture control is standard on the xDrive30d and M50d, but it is an option on the xDrive40i.

I'm picking up my X5 40i next week, got it settled this week before the increased tax kicks in.

I know I didn't option the window glazing, does that mean the X5 has no tint on the 4 side windows and rear windscreen? I'm looking to go for the darkest legal tint.

I'm organising quotes for paint protection, so might as well get quotes for tinting if necessary.

There are no tints at all unless you option the privacy glass. I do find it quite unusual that tints aren't standard.

See Dan of Dan's Garage detailing - great guy, real BMW enthusiast and superb workmanship.

Did my 40i (and 1M and M4 and XC60).

Thanks for confirming guys.
I am also quite surprised that there is no tint at all.
I'm coming from a Mercedes ML350, and used to the rear half being factory tinted in dark privacy.

I've messaged Dan and he is booked till around August. Did you go for the Opti-coat or Kamikaze? I'll probably use his service since my office is located minutes away from him.

I think I'll get the tinting done at tint-a-car within days after picking up the car, or does anyone have any recommendations for tinting in the eastern areas. I don't think Dan does tinting.

Opti-coat. He's busy because he's damn good. It was a $75 Uber for me and I still did it!

On the tinting - I never get the factory tint because it won't match with whatever you end up with on the front half. Both our cars (M4 dark, X5 mid) look nice and even. Mmmm, my OCD can manifest in yet another way....

When was your build date as I'm finding a lot of conflicting information on if this is included or not (particularly on the 30d).

Week 1 January.

I believe the 30d has gesture control standard, at least according to the configurator. Though, I would check with your dealer as they are the ones with the latest ordering sheet.
It appears just the 40i has gesture control as an option, which must be a mistake, I don't know why they would have it any different.

I picked up my 40i today, it was an April 2019 build and does not come with Gesture control. Not a biggie for me.

Congrats!

So it looks like this option change was intended and has been there for a few months. Mine is showing as built on 17 June, no Gesture Control, while I am still waiting for the delivery...

Brand new! Hope the wait doesn't feel too long. Picked up the car after work from the dealership tonight, went for a drive. Tomorrow morning I've gotta drop it off with the car detailer and tinter and won't get it back until Friday morning.

By the way, I decided to go with The Ultimate Detailer who is based in Knoxfield, VIC. Great reviews from him. I'll be sure to post my experience and thoughts once I get my car back on Friday.

Response from BMW Australia, Gesture Control would be an option for all X5 models...

Quote:
Thank you for contacting BMW Group Australia.

Please be advised that the Gesture Control is an option on all BMW X5 G05. We have forwarded to the relevant department for them to update the configurator.

We apologies for the inconveniences caused.

Kind Regards

Why would they change it?!

At least they are fixing the configurator.

I hope that this X5 doesn't get written off in an accident because I don't think gesture control would be worth paying extra for anymore.

I find the Gesture control is no where near as useful as the cloud-based voice control. Actually works most of the time for Aussie accents.

Cheers!
I picked up my M50d a few days ago and there is no gesture control. (I suspect a few other published features have not been included also)

I'm not so sure that the response from BMW Australia will cut it with me as all of their current published specifications, options guides and configurator says it is included with BMW Live cockpit Professional. Almost every review of the X5 makes reference to the gesture control feature and for BMW to just say now that 'the Gesture Control is an option on all BMW X5 G05' appears to me to be deceptive and misleading conduct in contravention of the Oz consumer laws. I might just insist that they retrofit it.
All local car suppliers seem to think that compliance with the Oz consumer laws is optional.

I agree with you there, but technically the reviews are not BMW's claims so they can't be in trouble for the reviews providing irrelevant information.

If you have something in writing that the Gesture control is included at the time you ordered - you certainly should pursue under the Australian consumer law.
I would not loose alot sleep over it though - the gesture control IMHO is a gimmick.

Anyone got an aftermarket towbar fitted yet in Australia?
The BMW towbar was meant to become available by now, but (as usual) is very expensive - at least $3400.
I only need for a bike rack - so was waiting for the Hayman Reece (not yet available), but the Stealth Hitch (US based) looks so much better, and still allows the kick-open to work with no cut-outs. Not likely ADR compliant - but wonder if anyone else has looked at this?
