do I need a battery charger

My X5 is now 4 years old, and I've done about 73000 miles so drive very regularly. thinking the batteries might only have another year or so. Plus I've not been able to do a software upgrade for ages and think the battery levels might be the culprit.
Should I get one? Will it charge both batteries? I don't have the MHEV version.just the one before it came out.
Ive been looking at the CTEK and the NOCO and veering towards the NOCO. What size? would the genius 5 be enough or do I need the 10.

Any thought. Thanks.

4 years- buy a new battery

There was a lengthy thread some time ago with folks having difficulty charging their battery with the CTEK MXS 5.0, myself included on my 2022 40i. Others commented this charger worked fine. So I purchased the NOCO Genius 10 and it has charged my battery without difficulty. Maybe my battery just needed the extra juice. CTEK also makes a MUS 7002 with 7 amps but is expensive. Here is an interesting chart which shows the MXS 5.0 as “good” for an SUV and the 7002 as “best’” - https://smartercharger.ca/pages/charger-selection-chart

One is a Swedish company and the other is a U.S.A company if that matters.

Not only that, it is 4 years starting a diesel. A new one should be considered standard maintenance.

First, I've never owned a diesel, so that that in consideration. But, knowing how BMW manages its batteries on a clutch versus trying to keep them fully charged like many other brands, even with an AGM battery, they do wear out. Personally, I'd probably replace both batteries. Now, if I had regularly used a battery maintainer on them, my last ICE, (at 40i) the first battery lasted a year when BMW replaced it, but the next one with regular maintainer use, lasted 7, and might have lasted longer, but I ended up in the hospital, and it was not put back on the maintainer, and during the winter with the non-use, it died.

I have used a Bosch battery maintainer. Many of the smarter ones have a routine that can sometimes restore a battery, and one with that capability might be useful. This is a newer version of what I have, but the UK version https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-intel...69&sr=8-5&th=1
