FAQ from mhdtuning.com
Q: Can I leave the adapter connected? A: Yes, but we recommend to unplug if the car is not used for longer than 7 days to prevent extra stress on the battery. Attention: On G Series cars with factory alarm system the adapter must be unplugged because the alarm will be activated after locking the car. |

Ok, anyone try the modBMW OBD wifi adapter (https://modbmw.com/shop/wifi-enet/)? What did they screw up?

I honestly don't see any reason to leave it plugged in all the time unless there's something I'm missing. |

Or maybe, like me, they don't see it as an issue because most don't leave it plugged in after coding. |

Nothing about compatibility. I just never bothered to hit the “purchase adapter” button as I was searching directly off of that list. |

But anyway, a) I don't want to either disable part of or screw around with the security system in the car, b) as I've gotten older, I've reduced my tolerance of shit design — unless it's existential, I am not giving any respect or money to people or companies who hack together ("design") and peddle defective (by-design or by-manufacturing) products ... unless they appropriately ask me/customers for help and don't try to BS me/customers that their errors are somehow not errors.

In FZD module you can code the OBD-Alarm option to nicht_active. Default is active. |

They also (correctly) point out the security issue of a POWERED ON OBD interface operating in an unattended car. However, BT adapters have solved the problem by powering down fully after car lock and one might very reasonably expect pairing security such as industry standard wifi WPA2 or 3 access passwords and encryption. Alas, these wifi interfaces appear to be dirty hacks rather than usable products. Too bad, I was pretty excited by the idea of fast, reliable, secure, and convenient OBDII interface ... but one still doesn't appear to exist.

I did ask BimmerCode what his thoughts were on this issue. See below for what he had to say about the problem. "the car monitors the traffic on the OBD port after it has been locked. This should only happen if there is actually a communication ongoing, but not if you just leave the adapter plugged in. I would still recommend to just unplug it after coding." I'm guessing that the manufacturer will address and possibly develop a solution to the problem when/if they get enough complaints about it. |

If I had nothing to do and thought there was actually enough of a market, I'd design and manufacture a decent interface myself, but that's not the case and the software/firmware behind these is not trivial if reliability and compatibility is the target (as, of course, it is). What I might consider, however, is an interposer (a "hardware power firewall", LOL) design between car OBD and these semi-broken interfaces to manage power flow between those (only very partially helps the security issues, however) ...

Well I can confirm that this one works:
New 2M Ethernet to OBD Interface Cable E-SYS ICOM Coding F-series for BMW ENET https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MECEI14..._ZEU3EbW6AS1FC It’s cheap, but you have to buy a lightning to RJ45 cable. I got the recommended one and it worked just fine. Amatage Lighting to RJ45 Ethernet LAN Network Adapter for Phone/Pad, Phone Ethernet Adapter, 3.3ft/1m Cable, 10/100Mbps High Speed, System Required iOS 10.0 or Up https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NW9HSL7..._3583EbVPFKWDM Actually, this setup was cheaper than any of the wireless ones and it was extremely fast. I know some of the Bluetooth ones can be rather slow to code. This thing took a few seconds to code and update. The only thing, though, is you have to turn on airplane mode, turn off WiFi and turn off Bluetooth, then connect the cable to your phone and wait until you see the Ethernet setting come up in the main settings. Once that is done, just plug it in, turn on BimmerCode, select the Enet Cable adapter and you’re good to go. Oh, I didn’t spend much time, but I did turn off auto start/stop and switched the default mode to Sport. However, I wanted to add video in motion, but I couldn’t find that. Also, the brake force display was already set to the minimums. |

I was coding Sport plus on my 30d and found this "extra boost" option in Expert mode, does someone knows what exactly this option does? Has anyone tried coding it?

I don't think anyone knows yet and it doesn't seem to do anything that anyone (including me) has noticed on lone ICE engines so far. Best wishful-thinking-guess I heard to date is that it might be some kind of an obscure PHEV feature, like maybe a little electric boost to ICE operation under acceleration load. But no idea ...

For anyone using iOS, I have had an email from BimmerCode that there is no set date planned for the update (which is already out on Android already)
