Is there any UV protection in the orig. rear tinted windows (G05)?
Hi!
I have a G05 with the original tinted rear windows. My wife and I just got a son (2w old) and are planning for a drive next week. This got me thinking, even though there is a hood on the child seat and the original shades for the the rear door windows are up, the sun always finds its way to the baby in between cracks etc. Is there some kind of UV protection in the tinted windows? How much? Source? Thank you =) |

While i don't know the answer to your question what i could tell you is that there is still a massive benefit to get tints over the stock privacy glass for heat rejection.
I ended up putting tint around the entire car (25% front doors, 50% all around and 80% for the windshield) and it helps keep the car much cooler during the summer months.

Do you have laminated glass? If so they generally block more % of UV. Doesn't hurt to put on a "clear", no tint ceramic as additional insurance.

Ditto...look at your build sheet for the options for the laminated glass. The front “Comfort” laminated windshield has its own option code...and the other side and rear windows have their own comfort/laminated option code.
If you go to one of the online part database sites, you can pull up the window diagrams (I think its group 51) and you can get the option code for the comfort/laminated windows. If you’re not familiar with any of the online database sites...here’s a couple: EDIT: if you don’t have the laminated glass (UV protection) you’ll have to have it installed

Back privacy glass does have much, if any UV/heat protection. We are in AZ so we ended up choosing tint that is rated higher for UV/heat protection. We chose an even higher UV/heat rating tint for our sun roof glass. Highly recommend it!

Thank you all for such informative replies!!
I have option 420 which I guess is called "privacy glass" in english speaking countries (I'm located in Norway). In norwegian (translated) they are called "sun protected windows". As mentioned I also have those curtains. Another question would be how much UV protection there is in those curtains, and combined with the 420 "privacy glass" option. I will read up on the tinting option and talk to my dealer. Thank you =) |
