It does have an exhaust valve... and to date, Bimmercode doesn't have the ability to disable it.... yet.
I've seen a few methods of "tricking" the system into keeping it open.... but they seem inconsistent. One sure way.... is to just pull the big "cotter pin" looking thing completely out. |

I just looked through all the supported options for the g05, and opening the exhaust valve isn't listed on the bimmercode app. Where are you seeing it?

Yea..... I'm confused. I've never used either app, but I've paid for and downloaded the bimmercode app in anticipation of my car's arrival in about a month.
I just did a search on the android app store for "bimmerlink".... and it's there, I click on it, and it opens as "bimmercode". Is it the same? What am I missing? |

BimmerCode and BimmerLink are not the same. It appears that BimmerLink is only available for iOS (https://www.bimmerlink.app/) while BimmerCode is available for both iOS and Android (https://bimmercode.app/).

In order to open the flap does the OBD Adapter need to be connected at all times?

Yes, while you want to be able to control it. If you open flap and then remove cable or fuse, no further need of BimmerLink or any OBDII adapter is necessary.

It does if it is not codeable (ie a static parameter) and is rather only a runtime parameter. I don't think the community knows yet on G05.

I'm just trying to determine two things first on the M50i are there 2 exhaust flaps or just one on the right side? On another post someone referenced that there were 2. Second thing is to avoid having to connect Bimmerlink every time I get into the car to open flap(s) anyone done a permanent valve disconnect? is it the same fix as others have done on their 50i,s vs M50i. If it's a pain to do I will wait and go with the X pipe and muffler delete others have done just worried about the in cabin drone.

on my 50i the flaps open everytime i touch the throttle pedal and close when idling or coasting. Not sure keeping them open would sound any different. The start up sound is partially do to fuel and timing to run a hotter mix to help the cats get up to temp so that sound will not change.

I did this today and setup the Individual Sport Mode with the engine set to Sports Plus. Good tip.

In my experience (22 X6 M50i) the flaps are not fully open at all times in Sport Plus. I connected the OBDLink MX+ to the OBD2, paired my phone to it via Bluetooth, then connected BimmerLink app to the device. When opening the flaps you can hear the flaps open further, even in sport plus. Not a huge difference overall, depends on what you are looking for.

The procedure I've read described over in M land is you put it in sport plus, have someone rev it up, and while the flaps are open you pull the fuses. It's alleged they will stay open. I want to say 203 and 206 but that's just going by memory, and I'm old, so you'd want to verify that.
Haven't tried it yet but I've been thinking about it. I like that reversing the procedure is easily done if you decide you don't like the sound or have drone issues. Do please post your results if you decide to fiddle with it. |

I can change the engine sound by doing the following (not sure what this does to the flap, but the sound is like sport mode all the time). As it states, your car may or may not be able to make the change because it depends on a few things.
(From the Owner's Manual) Engine sound Depending on the equipment and nationalmarket version, you can configure the sound of the engine. 1. "CAR" 2. "Settings" 3. "General settings" 4. "Engine sound" 5. Select the desired setting. The options I have listed are:
I have mine set to "Sporty" and it has the same exhaust sound as sport mode no matter which driving mode I have it in, except maybe Eco. Don't ever use Eco, so have not checked its sound.

Edit: I should note that some folks say there is a speaker on the outside of the vehicle that pumps the sounds out also to make the exhaust quieter, have never looked to check the veracity of that.
