Idk why these OEM’s use this shiny black plastic on high impact areas (like the grille). Gonna be swirled, scratched and chipped after the first wash unless you get PPF on it asap.

Doesn’t look bad but kinda reminds me of the new Audi grilles that are hard black plastic as well

I am only speculating but it may have two practical purposes... one would be to conceal sensors and hardware the second would be cost cutting as it they would be black for all vehicles regardless of body color.

Nah I don't see any sensors there and these bumpers are all primer black fiberglass/plastic/composite when manufactured anyway. So they have to paint the whole thing regardless.

Someone at BMW really just decided this looks good.

the mock-up earlier in this thread w/o the black part under the grill is perfect.

Looks dope but I’m not understanding why.. I mean I know Bimmer helped out by throwing the B58 in the supra so is this how Toyota shows their gratitude? 😂

The ACC, PDC are sensors. The black plastic bits will come black from the factory as found on the G05, G06, G07, F96, F96 etc. To me it looks like a very low cost and low effort refresh. Just enough to make it different so people lease again and say it is new and not the same vehicle. The main selling point will be the new iDrive not the bumper and tail lights.

IOMG works really well on the new X5 in my opinion, better than on the G80. I dig it.

LCI has really helped the X6M. Looks mean in Brooklyn. The X5M looks good too but not in IOMG. Marina or Black sapphire. Overall a minor refresh which just shows the Pre LCI was great just the way it was.

My bad, I meant the part between the grille and the license plate area. The part that someone else had earlier photoshopped away, since thats the main change in the front that seems controversial.

Either way, I don't think its a simple cost cutting measure. The rear bumper has body colored sensors, so its not like they've gained a lot of cost savings from simplifying their sensor production (i.e. make only gloss black).

Another LCI that downgrade the look. Not a fan of that gloss black plastic that turn purple in the sun after a few years.

Great post. Thanks for all the photos and information. These are incredible machines. I know the design is subjective but i really appreciate it. Thanks again.

It’s a move slightly backwards or at best sideways. BMW doesn’t know what their design identity is anymore. Not a huge issue for a 1 or 2 series level of vehicle but for this kind of money, it’s a huge problem. This LCI is not a great design but rather many are impressed with it because BMW didn’t rat-screw it up like they with the 4 series or X7 front end. This is more a sigh of relief that you can live with it rather than being an impressive new design change.

Ugh... Not happy with this LCI. The I dig the rear lights but that front end isn't an improvement at all. The lights with the weird arrows and the busy mouth area where it does have that lexus vibe to it. Then to top if all off the starting price is close to what my loaded 2020 cost so I can't imagine what this thing will sticker at with all the bells and whistles.

The lower grills look like some oddball aftermarket Larte inserts. They do not look factory at all. They didn't even address a single thing on the side, it would have been easy to change out the side vents to something more aggressive which matches the front and the rear is exactly the same minus tail lights. Curious if they discontinued 818M wheels to save for the LCI as another "new" option. As I said before... the new iDrive is going to be the selling point on this, everything else is just done to justify price hike and create the illusion of an all new product.

I actually like the new front more... may be in minority. Couldn't you just get the part wrapped to the color you want?

Will be hard to get the wrap to match the paint color exactly, depending on what color you picked.

I am tempted to find a shop to actually paint that part, but at the same time I feel like after living with the car for a little while it wont bother me.

Just not a fan of how iDrivr 8 is slapped onto the dashboard, looks unfinished imo.

Though I guess I’ll have to order one.

Looks worse on the G80 M3. Not that it makes this any better just pointing out that this upgrade mid-life winds up with undesirable side effects.
