Do you connect X5 to your home WiFi

Hi, is there an option to connect X5 to the home WiFi network when it's at home /garage?

I am pretty much a novice with this vehicle tech stuff.
Why would one need or have desire to connect their X5 to a home wifi?
There seems to be a good many guys on here who are quite conversant with all this mobile technology and I am not one of them but better than I was not so long ago.

although it's not connected the home's wifi, are you looking into something similar as described here? if not, what are you trying to accomplish?

mainly for any faster OTA updates to download new apps, newer firmware as it becomes available.. very similar to what Tesla does. Maybe X5 does not do the OTA updates.

My understanding was that X5 is enabled with somewhat internet connection on there, please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks

BMW has utilized OTA updates for a couple years now with major releases coming out in March, July and November on an 'arbitrarily rolling' basis by region (a 3-6 month lag or longer is common). I'm not familiar with Tesla's rollout of its software updates, but I suspect it's quicker than BMW. remote software upgrades are downloaded to the vehicle in two ways:
1) downloaded directly to the vehicle via its cloud server
2) downloaded to the MyBMW app then to the vehicle

this video shows the latest available OTA update currently making its way around the world

The cellular connection isn't super fast, so downloading it first to your phone is usually faster. Once it's in the phone, transferring it to the X5 is fairly fast. There's a setting in the BMW app for the phone to limit the download to only use WiFi if you want to avoid downloading over a gig on your cellular plan.

Thank you. So we need to download it to the phone and then upgrade. I guess that Make sense.
