Welcome to the Club, Prague.....This is awful, it really is, and seemingly so easy for BMW to fix if they wanted. Mine G05 is now one month-old and I would gladly pay for the fix it is so bad. I am tinted, but it was definitely a problem before getting my tinting done - I was just too stubborn to truly believe BMW would pull a stunt like this and went ahead, spent the money on tint.

Oh well, we can always hold out hope. I was thinking there may even be some magic combination of the interior light switches to make it happen, or different displays - Nope.....Coding - Nope.

I did buy a very small penlight, but it was too small and would not brighten it up like my phone's light did (plus nowhere to mount it properly). I fear I will be removing my tint soon and going towards the dyed tint (non-ceramic).

With multiple threads on this topic and quite a bit of outreach to BMW, you would think BMW would realize this issue is a miss on their part. Frustrating to say the least and disappointing that such a nice car can have such a glaring flaw on so many models in the line up.

That said, here is yet another cheap manual, but somewhat elegant solution that I would hope to be temporary. But it appears that BMW blames its customers for the dimming issue vs. helping its Customers with a simple fix to allow a sensitivity adjustment option that is similar to the one they have for night time adjustment.

Buy a "Button Lamp" off of Amazon (qty 6 for $9 PRIME) and use the adhesive backing to stick it to the back of your turn signal stalk. The angle of the stalk keeps the light from interfering with the instrument cluster and keeps the brightness on nearly full-blast... It's manual to turn the light on or off, but once on and leave it on until not needed...

To find it, search Amazon for "BUTTON LAMP Adhesive LEDs Light" and it should be the first item...

This whole thing is a situation of "Let me manage my car, not you"

Cheers!

@chrisnack has a great home-grown solution for this, albeit in prototype stage right now. Some of y'all may have caught the other thread, but linking it here just in case.

BimmerCode to fix dim dash during daytime

When I tinted the front windows on my 2022 X5 (G05), I had the same problem with dim dash and control screens during the day. Using BimmerCode, I made the following code changes with very acceptable results:

Headunit - 3005 APIX_CID_UND_ZIN - DIM_CURVE_X2 – change values to 0x00, 0x00 (from 0x1F, 0xC0)

Instrument cluster - 3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration – DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE – change value to aktiv

Instrument cluster - 3005 FuBi_Parameter – DIM_DTN – change value to 0x7F (from 0x3F)

After programming the codes above, go to Car/Settings/Displays/Control display and change the “Brightness at night” to it’s lowest value. Then use the standard I.P. scroll wheel to set a comfortable light level in darkness.

These changes have made driving my BMW much more pleasant, without having to glue a tiny light to my dash.

If any of you would like to try these settings on yours as well, then report back with the results, I would be very interested in your experience, and probably others here as well.

Hope this helps, everyone....

New X5 2022 same issue

Just bought a BMW X5 and I am experiencing the same issue since day 1. Got in Panama City, Panama where the local dealer offers to tint the windows free with every new car (very sunny here). Got what they call medium tinted shades for all windows except the front. The dimming issue is very annoying and only is only evident while driving during the day. At night the screen brightness is perfect. I was advised to go to dealer service center for a check-up.

This could be a HUGE relief to so many people

The Bimmerlight solution doesn't appeal to me for aesthetic reasons, so I just live with the dash being a lilttle dim at times.

But this here - this could be a game changer for me. I'm going to test it out next time I'm coding.

Thanks for sharing

This is ridiculous.

On my F10, BMW's' headlight sensor was way off. As a result, my auto headlights would stay on for far, far too long after it got light. Or maybe was the other way around, I can't recall, it's been almost 10 years.

But it looks like BMW still can't figure out how to set a light sensor? Jesus...

This definitely does the trick for me, here's a photo with the light sensor even completely covered up for several minutes, the screen doesn't dim.

Yes, works on my X6.

In terms of infotainment, X5 & X6 are identical. There is a bigger difference between 2 differently optioned X5's, than there is between an identically optioned X5 and X6.

This mod may actually get me to start making changes with bimmercode.

I've got some experience using a different software to change settings in my F150 already, so it's not totally new to me.

I'm just more scared of bricking my wife's X5 than I am my F150.
