Air suspension or not for a 2020 X5 Xdrive 40i?
What's the pros and cons? Is it a must have if I just drive on road?
On the other hand it is not a very expensive option, anybody has any thoughts? Thanks! |

I’ve had my G05 for about 3 weeks now. I got the air suspension mostly because I wanted the IAS. I live in an urban area outside of Washington DC and my driving is mostly city streets + highway (as context).
I have no regrets I got the IAS + air suspension. Since you asked about the air suspension, I notice the ride is very comfortable & the ability to lower the car is helpful (although not sure how frequent I’d need that). While I haven’t driven a G05 without the air suspension, I’ve read posts on here by people who have and notice the difference. I think it comes down to your budget and what features are critical for you. If it fits in your budget, I’d highly recommend the AS + IAS. |

Get the air suspension and the BBM lowering links, cheap mod but makes a huge difference in appearance.

Air suspension + AIS, no regrets. it glides over everything. every time i approach an uneven road surface I brace myself and then I'm still surprised has how uneventful it is to get over it.

It depends on what you like. Our X5 has AS and IAS. I won't comment about IAS here since the question is AS.
My wife LOVES the Air Suspension. It's a comfortable ride and it reminds me of a similar ride as that of a Range Rover Sport. Bumps and road imperfections get absorbed very well. We've had X5's (and Land Rovers) with rear only air suspension and the 4 wheel air suspension on the G05 is on a different level. That said, for me personally, I wouldn't do it. However, I prefer a more taut or Teutonic ride. For reference, my M550i is probably as soft as I would want so to me the air sprung X5 is almost like riding on a marshmallow. The dampers on the X5 do a good job with managing the responsive air springs so I don't notice any secondary wheel hop over like on an American large SUV (Tahoe or Expedition, etc.). Ultimately it's a very personal choice and I would suggest taking a test drive to get an idea of what you want/like. But to quickly summarize, if you're coming from a Japanese or American SUV or an air sprung Land Rover, then you'll probably love the air suspension. If you're coming from a German sport sedan (M-Sport BMW, etc.) then you may want to take an extra long test drive in an AS X5 before committing. |

I also opted for the air suspension. It depends on what your goals are with the car. If you prioritize comfort, then the air suspension is a great option. If you prioritize sportiness, then it might not be the right choice.
That being said, it handles perfectly fine, and is able to firm up if you drop it into sport mode. In comfort mode the driving experience is very serene and relaxing. Pair it with acoustic glass and you'll truly have an incredibly peaceful driving experience. The ability to lower the car also helps a bit especially when I need to put my daughter in her car seat or take her out. The lowering process is relatively quick and can be started before the car's come to a complete stop.
