I assume you meant the latter...although I suspect both are true to some extent.
It's really both now you mention it. That said, I was thinking of value. Given they are new to hit the streets it's unlikely there would be negotiation room, but these are strange times and the dealerships are hurting.

In terms of the value statement, it's a guestimate really from looking at the market when I was shopping in 2018. I found an F85 2015. When I was shopping, a like miles (generally they are all optioned the same) 2016 version was anywhere from 5K to 10K more. It hadn't occurred to me to check the build date at the time.

That said, if this is your baby that you will be driving for a long time, that may not even matter vs the wait! The X5M...what an incredible ride!!

My car is sitting in "Production Started" for a couple of weeks with a schedule to be complete of 4/1. Calling the BMW automated system, It still said the same thing. My dealer called me a couple of days ago and said that it should be complete 4/15 and when it arrives at the dealership (Charlotte), then will deliver the car to my house. I am not holding my breath, but that would be nice. I don't know how they got this info, or just guessed.

That is in the assumption that Spartanburg will restart April 12th, I doubt that very much.
We in Europe seem to be showing some signs of recovery but you guys are about 8 days behind so the worst is yet to come for the US, unfortunately.

The website might be providing some misinformation. Mine is a special order and just before shutdown (about a week) moved back and forth, and then stayed with 'production scheduled' status. I contacted my dealer yesterday and their internal status was 'order received' - it had been moved back. It's still showing as scheduled on the myBMW status.

FWIW, I was speaking to a manager that does the orders for the dealership. We chatted for about 20min - He said that they aren't being told much at all. There are internal discussions about whether the remainder of the 2020 my gets scrapped, and/or they start early with the 2021 MY. He said there are a lot of questions and not many answers.

He did say something interesting - his information is that the plants currently shut down (he said all of them but China are) have target dates for reopening but some of them are noted as 'indefinite'; not that they are closing permanently, but that the dates are being put aside because of the current uncertainty.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that they will scrap any further production of the MY2020 for the X5 at this point in the calendar year. I just hope that is the case for ALL models of the G05 (including the F95).

I really don't want to have to decide between a 2020 F95 delivered in June and a 2021 delivered in September, but with a couple new options (e.g. LED Sky Lounge and acoustic glass). I know the "right" decision in that matrix, but I don't trust myself, so I'd rather the decision be taken out of my hands.

I really don't see the European plants open on April 19th. Neither the US plant.

MY2020 or 2021 is not that important to me. I just want the car

Honestly i think the right decision is the one that makes you happy.

I've had sky lounge in my last 2 BMW's it's cool, but not a deal killer for me. Even the exhaust notes...I had a ferrari a few years ago and there was a camp of people looking for ways to beef up the sound system and majority of the forum feedback tended to be "Why bother? The best sound coming from the car is through the tailpipes?."...this draws a parallel for me with the acoustic glass. The X5M definitely has some of that symphony going on from the tail pipes too! (especially if you play with the vacuum lines )

Sure, all of that is fair. Given all of the uncertainty with timing of production restarting, just taking possession of any MY would be satisfying in the next few months. I certainly agree that Sky Lounge and acoustic glass are relatively minor options in my overall view of the car. But obviously there is a point where it just makes sense to wait - at least for the Sky Lounge IMO. If, for example, it was only a 1 week difference to wait for the MY2021, obviously we‘d all wait that extra week. 2 weeks? Sure, that too. But at some point, you the length of the wait isn’t worth it and you’d say f&ck it and pull the trigger on the 2020. I’m also assuming all other things (e.g. price) are equal...which they will probably not be.

As expected Spartanburg will remain closed until April 30th at least.

I'm curious what the European plants are going to do.

My guess is I will get the 45e after the summer, but hopefully still this year.

Audi Brussels has confirmed startup April 20th, probably at a lower capacity.

Other manufacturers are planning for the same I presume.

I don't know. ABVV (a socialist union of course) finds it not realistic.

BMW should just pull the plug on MY2020 and reopen in July or August.

I don't think it is worth waiting for MY2021, it is only going to be some software related stuff and maybe some new colors and interior trims.
It's nothing big like an LCI.

Yes, that's true. It depends on when they will reopen. Hopefully sooner than later. And that's not only for BMW but for the global economy.

My build status just went back to order received again for the second time. At this point I'm not even sure what to do especially with the build delays and BMW's move to start dropping residual value....

Nothing in this news release should surprise any of us given the trend with virtually every other sector of the economy. But to see some of the quotes in writing really makes it feel more likely that we won’t see new production rolling off the line until late summer. The two themes that stuck with me in that article:

1. They are concerned about global demand and will likely need to modify production accordingly
2. Their suppliers are similarly compromised during this time (they gave examples of the 3 key suppliers with substantial layoffs in the last two weeks).

Again, not a surprise, but just a realization that they aren’t just going to fire up the assembly line in a few weeks and be back to business as usual...especially not at anything close to normal production levels.

Also, I doubt they are going to be offering any screaming deals on yet-to-be-produced vehicles. That’s the point of modifying their production going forward with substantially contracted demand. They are not going to recklessly adopt a “build it and they will come” mantra. Hell, they won’t likely have access to all the parts to do that anyway even if they wanted.

What a mess.

They are probably replanning every build based on the new startuo date.
At least you can see the status of your car.
The last time I was informed about my build was about a month ago.

Let's hope so. I ordered my car in July last year. I would like to see it produced in the near future. It was scheduled week 14. So hopefully they will start production with already sold cars and contracted demand.

Let's hope they start where they stopped and don't turn the queue around, I was scheduled in the week they stopped

Online monitoring of the order would be nice. Dealers don't know anything overhere, even in normal times

Yea, I remember from one of your other posts that you’ve been waiting a VERY long time - I genuinely feel for you. I put my order in last November, but didn’t actually get a build allocation slot until mid-February and I feel like I’ve been waiting forever - your wait is just mind-blowing.

Coincidentally, my original build week was 14 also. Not sure if we’re ordering the same car, but what is your revised build week now? Per my dealer, mine is now week 21...but that obviously doesn’t feel very reliable given the more recent developments.

I hope they focus on cars that are actually sold and not cars to fill dealer lots.
