Navigation Issues

Anybody else having problems with their Nav system? Mine has been pretty iffy, telling me to make u turns, picking dumb routes to take, etc. Anybody else?

Yes and it chronically changes it’s mind at the last moment. 10 steps back from prior.

Sorry you are experiencing problems. What a downer to have problems with something as tried and true as navigation. I hope they figure it out. In the meantime, can you use Apple CarPlay instead? If so, how do you like it?

Apple CarPlay is just barely ok. It competes with iDrive for ownership of the screen. Some BMW functions are completely disabled when you have CarPlay enabled. In my opinion unnecessarily.

CarPlay pop ups are unreliable if in iDrive mode as is Siri enablement from steering wheel mic button.

Are all X5's having these issues or is it an early hardware / software issue?

I think it's just a software issue. My car is at the dealership since yesterday and it's just been reinstalled/reconfigured and the basics are fixed. The CarPlay issues are being sorted now. Some people don't have this issue. I suspect it's partly based on if the dealership did a software update check before releasing the car.

When I use CarPlay I can't seem to get cellular data working because of the wifi connection used to connect the iPhone to my G05.

When I talked to a BMW Genius they didn't know a way around this other than to force each app to use cellular internet instead of wifi. Anyone else have any other solutions?

Car play seems to be working ok for me although I’m not sure I have fully tested it. Yesterday I had the X’s Navi on but had Waze on the screen and was getting messages through car play, so it seemed to be working well that way. I haven’t actually used Waze for navigation yet to see if it will talk to me, I’ll test that today.

Navi on the X doesn’t seem to know that some very old streets even exist... even though they show on the map. won’t make the obvious choice for them.

Mine was supposed to have been updated before I picked it up and I don’t seem to be having car play issues, so you’re probably right. The navigation issues apparently aren’t fixed with a software update yet... hopefully before too long. It will get you where you want to go, just won’t select the fastest route, which is what I have it set for.
