Yes, it does. I'll mention it again, per the manual, the size of the iPhone pro exceeds the maximum size they say the charging tray accepts...all bets are off. Plus, while depending on your height and seat position, it can be hard to see the idiot light that tells you you've got the phone properly positioned. That can make a difference, too.

I just recently got a 2021 X5 45e…my iPhone 14pro charges on the charging pad, but it does get quite warm.

And what’s with it opening my Apple Wallet (as if I’m about to make a payment) every time I put the phone on the charging pad?

Sounds like there’s no “fix” for the phone getting very warm….yet….maybe an iOS update will change that?

I’m just reading here about the blue light that’s supposed to come on when the phone is properly positioned….can’t say I’ve seen that light yet, but I’ll look for it the next time I’m in the vehicle.

Thanks!

The wallet is where your digital key for the vehicle is, assuming you've enabled that...

My view is BMW did the charging pad as an afterthought of design so they could claim — as a car in this price range must be able to do — that it has a charging pad.

But it is poorly designed with no ventilation, difficult access if you use a cup holder, is slow and not properly sized for modern larger phones. Just stupid. No need to make excuses for the company.

The G05 charging pad is absolute rubbish. The only 1 bad thing I find with the vehicle. If the phone doesn't overheat, it doesn't stay in place. There were many times I arrived at my destination to find the phone had moved a fraction and was not charging the whole time. And because of placement you can hardly see the charge light unless you physically move to look for it - and that's if you have nothing in the cup holders!! Very poor design. Hence I do not use it.

This is what I do. Works much more reliably! Also ensures I do not attempt to look at the phone while driving!

this forum is for 2019-present X5 (G05). you also asked a question about rusty screws when this thread is about a wireless charger

How did you remove the 'top cover' and place it on the underside?

Next your iphone battery health % will start to decline rapidly after a few months of use.
Thats what happened to my 12 pro.

mine heats up my iphone 12 pro and my work iphone 13 pro and i have different cases and no differnce. I do get it charging, but the center console USB is a bit faster. I like that i can charge 2 phones at once, my personal and work phones or my phone and my wife's phone. Not such a fan of the induction heater

This tread has confirmed what I suspected. The wireless charger is junk. In the 2021X5 it heated up my phone but never really charged it. The suggestion that the charge pad was an induction heater was apt. The phone would overheat.

In a fit of optimism, I hoped that it would be improved in the 50e. And maybe it is, because I don't think the phone gets so hot. It still doesn't charger, but at least it's not overheating. And in both vehicles, it opens my Apple Wallet.

I really don't get what is so hard about this.
