E85

Does anyone know, definitively, what it takes to run E85? Fuel pumps, injectors, port injection?
I think JB4 has E85 maps available. I'm toying with the idea of trying this.

add a custom tune in that mix - fuel economy will be reduced dramatically. you might consider snow performance meth injection instead

If your 21 I believe was made before August you can unlock your ECU and run a custom tune, which will the first component. Second component is I believe an upgraded LFPF, take a look at the m5 forums with the same engine to figure out the rest. I never wanted to do E, but I did want to do WMI.

If it's after August, you have to send it to femto to be unlocked. Please don't do a piggyback + e.

I'm just looking at the mechanical aspects of running E or Flex.
If I do it, I'll have the computer unlocked.
A lot of guys are running E with my supercharger systems and are making BIG power compared to pump gas.
If I don't do it, I have a JB4 and a BMS Meth Injection kit that I may install in place of my Dinan Tuner.
I rebuilt the meth kit with stainless PTFE lines. I won't run straight meth with plastic lines. Water/meth, or "Boost Juice" cools the mixture but doesn't add the 110 Octane that straight meth delivers.
I'm also pretty sure I can run something like E40 with the JB4, but I need to check with Ando at BMS on that.

Yes you can on the E40, it's the same as the M5's.

Also with you on the meth kit. I want one but haven't seen a good kit that isn't $3000 for some basic ass adapter, plumbing (plastic!) and a pump.

The snow performance kit is not that expensive. The minute it starts spraying you feel the power bump its pretty amazing. Ran this on my trackhawk it was well worth it. Ran VP racings M1 meth which is 100% methanol (not a water mixture). the injection was going into the super charger cap and also behind the intake.

Where are people plumbing in the nozzles? Only one company I saw made some metal inlet adapters to screw the nozzle in post IC. This kit was $3k

E20-E30 seems to be the sweet spot for JB4 map 2 - it felt like fuel delivery was an issue starting at about E35. Been running this for over a year with no other mods and love the power gain (3.2 0-60 and 11.1s 1/4 is best dragy). Gas mileage is a bit worse but E85 is a lot cheaper than 91. I'm on the beta map which solves the random code issue I occasionally got on map 2 with EWG wires connected.

Just chiming in to say it’s worth running a fuel filter going from the LPFP to the HPFP, have seen folks lean out a cylinder unknowingly that the DME didn’t catch.

I have never done an E85 tune on a BMW. When I converted a GTR I had to E85 it required a fuel density kit, new fuel pumps, new intake, new downpipes and some other things I cannot remember. Do you not have to change all of this hardware to run a BMW on E85 tune?
