Do you still need heated seat with preconditioning?
Or is heated seat just for the time when you forgot to preconditioning, or don't have enough time/battery to do preconditioning?
$350 for it isn't bad, but if I never use it that's still going down the drain. |

Personally, I use it on a long trip when it's cold out as it's comforting. If you have the PHEV, it can be more efficient using the seat heater and keeping the cabin temperature down a little. Then, you won't always remember to precondition. Now, the warmer your winters are, the less of an issue it is. If you're buying, it might be an issue on resale.

I like the air cool (but not cold) and my butt and lower back warm and toasty. Having the seat heaters come on automatically below a specified temperature is one of my favorite features. Unless you live in a place without winter, this one isn't even a choice IMHO. Seat heaters are a must have.

there are inconsistent reports of the seat heating while preconditioning. I precondition every morning before work, and during the winter, I don’t recall the seat being warm already when I get in my seat. if the temperature outside is low enough, it will turn on automatically as soon as I start the vehicle (Climate Control rules)

Yes, unless the car is in warm climate all year round it’s a must option I believe.
( frankly I can’t believe you can spec the X5 without seat heating) |

I don't know your age, but I probably started using heated seats in the summer at ~35 because...old man problems.
Also, an X5 without heated seats is kind of like hiring a hooker to cuddle. For $350, they're worth it. |

I thought heated seats were standard. Heated steering wheel and armrest were upgrades. Every car I've owned in recent memory had heated seats and I don't remember paying extra for them. Absolutely essential -- even in a mild winter they help with aching backs, etc.
The wheel/armrest option is a nice-to-have but if you really need to economize there are probably other, cosmetic options you don't need. |

The seat ventilation can keep your back and butt dry or help dry them off on a longer trip. FOr a short one, probably not an issue. They are NOT cooled seats, so don't expect it to refrigerate your butt!
