Scratch in rear bumper
Probably got hit by shopping carts in parking lots.
First, I am trying to avoid body shops as I have had horrible stories with them even though there might be good ones out there. Can this be fixed by touchup and polishing or other means that do not require removing parts? I will probably hire someone who is good at scratch removal to fix it if they can make it unnoticeable. Does anyone know the color code for the dark gray bumper cover by the way? |

Run your thumbnail over it. If it catches it prob needs wet sanding. It doesn’t look too deep so if anything it might need primer then touch up. But I’d try wetsanding and compounding to see if it makes it bareable. Even a wax layer will fill it slightly.
That part looks like it’s body color, isn’t it? |

I would paint it gloss black to match the shadow line trim but if your vehicle is black then I would do a flat or matte black. The orbit grey or whichever grey they used on the trim annoys me since there is no other grey anywhere on the body on my vehicle.

It's very annoying, I know..
If you park at malls, shopping centers, etc, I would just wait until you get more scratches, is this even visible from few feet away? I would try scratch-x or something like that give it a good rub to blend it until you spot another little scratch somewhere else. Dealer scratched my tailgate bottom portion and said he'd call me to schedule another visit to make it right, never heard back after a month.

I agree that it probably looks better if it has the same shadow line gloss black but I will keep fix small and keep the OEM color for now.

Touch paint will just make it stand out more but good luck in your repairs. Hopefully it works out.
