Well, I am the one who cross shopped both these cars.
Ended up ordering BMW, because even though the X5 is much more luxurious/badass/cool/wow factor than Telluride, it cost not so much more due to stupid dealer's markup on KIA cars. I had choice: 1.Telluride, MSRP + $10,000 dealer markup due to high demand, lol 2.X5 45e, -10% MSRP, -$7,500 EV Tax credit. My choice was obvious, lol. |

Because Kia / Hyundai has made amazing strides over the last 5 years and now is stealing sales from all the German Luxury brands. They are now solidly at the Acura / Cadillac / Volvo level. And if you're a buyer who cares about fit / finish / features vs. performance, the Kia / Hyundai offerings will treat you well.
If, however, you can't get past any brand / badge identity, then nothing will ever get you into a Kia, even if it was better. Remind me again who Albert Biermann is? And who he works for now? Ah yes, that's right, not the M Division.... |

Lest we forget who Luc Donckerwolke and Peter Schreyer are... In the same vein look what JDN did for Cadillac. Pouching all these individuals who turned Audi and VAG into the juggernaut is today (along with De Silva) may be worthwhile to Hyundai/Kia that being said it is going to take more than a few former highline designers or management to get me into one those vehicles.

Can’t bring my self to look at let alone buy a Korean car, once soured me on the experience. We bought my youngest daughter a used Hyundai Elantra and after a month the Bluetooth went out, of course it was the only thing not covered by the warranty.
I also can’t get past the name KIA, to me KIA = Killed in Action, stupid I know but I’d like to meet the marketing guy who failed to research military acronyms. |

I'm also considering the telluride as my 2006 x5 6spd is at 180,000 miles and I will probably drive until repair costs become to painful.
Right now I am leaning towards a newer x5 since it has a true tailgate and that works out better when hauling firewood and other stuff from home depot on weekends. I do however like the large cargo space of the telluride |

I've been driving the Kia K900 for the past year, and really can't fault it, Kia have really lifted their standard a crazy amount.
As far as I can tell the interior seems similar in the Telluride in a lot of aspects. Build quality is really up there too, I'd say better than Mercedes are making currently with their squeaky plastics in the E-class. But you can't compare handing and feel to BMW, Kia I'd say is a mix or sports and comfort something along the lines of what Audi are putting out. Taking the price into the equation $31,000 for the Kia vs $60,000 for the BMW, the Kia is a bargain! You won't be getting anything that size with that build quality anywhere else really. If you're looking for a mid price range SUV and don't care much for sporty handling and feel then I'd say go for it! I'm still impressed by the K900 and have no idea where they cut the costs. |

So, what we have in the end: 1. Loaded Telluride 46,000+10,000=$56,000 2. Loaded X5 45e 82,000-10%MSRP-$7,500 EV Tax credit= $66,300. Not that much difference is between two cars. Given the numbers above I would buy X5 again, again and again.. |

In the same vein if you shop by price alone then "Steakumms" seem like a great value compared to prime rib / aged beef. You're not exactly comparing equally but this topic has been beaten to death; much like the horse in Steakumm products.

When we were shopping for the wifes new lease, we looked at the Telluride, the dealers were asking ridiculous price on lease, well well over MSRP... If you are cross shopping, look at the new Genesis coming out, looks nicer than the Telluride. But neither compare with X5 in driving experience and quality IMHO

Nah; no offense taken I'm sure. The only people in Telluride who might take offense would be the ones who drive a car by that name. And beg pardon from those of us across the pond who think tyre is spelled "tire"...

If you're shopping purely on price, features and inches of space, probably a BMW would not make much sense for you, or any other premium brand for that matter. Of course the car has to be useful and practical, but if that's where you stop when you compare two vehicles / brands, then you're missing out on other important factors (to car enthusiasts) such as how you FEEL when you drive the car, its personality, the quality of the materials, attention to detail, handling under different conditions, etc. Not much KIA and BMW cars have in common. Good luck ! |
