I thought there is gonna be a OTA rollout in Sep. We are now in October, but I still have not got any OS 8.5 update on my LCI?
Just wondering if any LCI owner got the OS 8.5 update via OTA already?

My guess is with iOS 17 arriving they have probably found some issues they are testing/fixing. But who knows.

How do you know that an update is available to be installed?
Do you get a notification on your phone or in the car?

Yep and for now I've disabled auto download on the app but will get the notification regardless when available for the 40i. I'm sitting on the fence for 8.5 as the iD8 03/2023.45 on the X5 now is rock solid and I prefer it's UI over iD8.5. If there is some sort of safety fix, etc. in a future 8.5 release that may push me over the edge but don't even see that coming down the pike as all the lane departure, collision, DAP and DAP+ (aka highway assist) work flawlessly.

Unfortunately if there is a recall or if you need some warranty work they will likely update it. Hopefully that won't happen for you.

Recall yes as no way to stop that. Regular warranty work then my SA won't do it. I've had this situation with iD7 without a recall (my 2020 didn't have the reverse camera issue on the 2019s) so when I drop it off it's either don't touch iDrive or please install the latest (the case back in July when I wanted 07/2023).

Depends on the issue. Sometimes when the dealer opens a TSARA case the engineer asks that iDrive be updated to the latest version as the first step in the process of diagnosing/resolving the issue.
