Weird problem.
I had my H&K amp replaced because of this issue earlier this year. Why don’t you guys go to your dealers?

My dealer refused to order a new amp before upgrading the software and seeing if that helps. So far, it has helped ;-) :-(

It's the old intermittent electronic glitch problem. When the SA cannot see it, you have to hope they trust you or you go down a long and ugly path. I cannot replicate the issue, so I just wonder if it is worth the hassle and if BMW even has parts available.

There is a SIB 65 01 21 for this issue and BMW SA should be able to identify this.

two things, it can be due to software issue and/or fault in the RAM control unit (replacing system amplifier)

Does this apply to the base HIFI systems as well or just HK and B&W?

I think I'm having the same issue. I just have the base system with Bavsound speakers and woofers added.

I have this every few weeks/months with my HK. Rebooting idrive does not help. Only parking the car for a short time and when you get back in the car the bass is miraculously back.
I haven't yet gone to the dealer with this issue.
That being said tomorrow I will probably have this problem

At last I went to my dealer for loss of bass I have from time to time with HK. They are going to replace the amp. It's on backorder, so who knows when...

I wanted a new amp, but they wanted to upgrade the software first. "Unfortunately", the software upgrade appears to have fixed the problem - at least for now.

I have had the issue as well. Only happened once. Turning off the car and turning it on solved it. 2019 X5 with B&W sound system.

Bass Sound Drops 2021 X5 XDrive with Harmon Kardon

As stated by other users, the software updates will probably not work for long if at all. I have had my X5 at the dealer on three separate occasions for this issue. The first time they updated the software for the RAM unit and the second time they updated the entire head unit software. The last time they were able to duplicate the problem and suggested that the amplifier be replaced. However, BMW requires a days worth of testing and verification because the part is about $1,500. Very frustrating. Hopefully they will order the amplifier tomorrow after a days worth of documentation.

Mine has been working for about 10 months, after they updated the software. Was kind of disappointed, didn't get a new amp ;-)

This just happened to me for the first time. 8.5k miles. Turning off the car and turning back on fixed it.

I've had the bass cut out a few times while driving as well. It's been ok since then, but I see I'm not alone.

Just had this happen in my 2020 X5 M50i. Cycling the ignition and locking the doors didn't help. Parked overnight and the next morning the bass was back. Not looking forward to contacting my local dealer

Dealer wasn't able to reproduce the error but after referring it to BMW HQ, will be doing an istep upgrade - don't have the car back yet so can't advise to what software level but I'll update here when it's back and if it re-occurs.

For me, it only happens on longer journeys, after 30-45 mins driving.

I had my car in for service and asked them to check this. They couldn’t find anything wrong.

They did upgrade me to 03/2022 and one thing I noticed is that music through CarPlay seems lower. Anyone else notice this? The bass is softer, everything seems lower in relative volume.

Hi all I have being doing a bit of research into retrofitting a HK audio system into my X5 and came across this thread. It appears from what I have read on this thread the issue of bass audio loss is limited to those that have HK units.

HK units have a mid or high end spec RAM (Receiver Audio Module) and a booster amp installed right next to it. The base HiFi has either the Low or mid RAM ECU only no booster

I have had a look at the circuit diagrams for both systems and have noted all the speaker circuits in the base HiFi unit RAM all connect to the RAM unit as expected.
However in the HK system the 2 base speakers under the seats are connected to the booster amp directly not the RAM ECU. I am of the opinion these faults are either the booster amp over heating? as many on this thread have commented or there is a faulty connection between the booster and RAM unit which utilizes a high speed ethernet connection. If there was a fault with the RAM unit itself I doubt you would hear any thing at all.

Anybody who has this issue and wants to enlighten them self on the topic I suggest you download the infotainment pdf file at the below link and give it a good read before going to the dealer so that you are prepared for whatever excuse the SA may present you with.

When I have experienced the no bass problem, it has always happened right from starting up the car, so I don't think it could be an overheating problem. And in my case, the problem went away with a software upgrade (version 07/2021.50) - at least it appears so. (I guess it could still be a hardware problem, but they found some kind of a software workaround for it..)

The same thing happened to me on a 2021 G05. I went to the BMW dealership and after they updated the car's software, the diagnosis was: the amplifier is burnt. They replaced AMP, it under warranty

+1 had that in my 2020 G05 30d and it happend for the first time on my 2022 40d. Both with HK audio. iDrive reset doesn't help. Leaving the car off for about 10-15 minutes does help.

I wonder if there is a definite resolution to the problem.
