Buying new vs CPO on lease?

I am looking to purchase a semi-loaded x5 40i fairly soon. I have 0 credit history as I have recently moved from the UK, but will qualify for the executive credit program. There is a possibility I will be in the USA for only 18 months

My question is... Should I lease or Loan...

and will I get a better deal on a CPO then a brand new. I am happy with the 2019 spec which may work in my benefit since the MY2020 will be out soon.

If there is a good chance that you will only need it for 18 months then leasing will probably not be a feasible idea unless you can get someone to take over the lease. If you terminate early then you will get swamped in charges and fees. You may be able to do a short-term lease with a private leasing company or even a rental company.

If you are buying then I would think that a CPO vehicle will be much less although since it is a fairly new model you may have a difficult time finding many.

Good luck on your quest and let us know how it turns out.

I'd be cautious about a car that's a CPO already since these have only been out for about 6 months.

What should I be worried about? There are a few (3-4) in the areas im looking. They seem like demos

Oh, I didn't think about dealer demo's. I was thinking someone hated it so much or it had so many problems it was traded in already.

I am assuming by your user name that you are in Austin, TX? I would suggest either buying out right, or third party lease. Apple Leasing does have a BMW program, never leased from them, but neighbors have and were happy. They may be able to do a shorter lease term if you decide to lease. (Note, I do not, nor have I ever worked for Apple Leasing, nor do I know anyone that does, not trying to push you there to benefit personally in any way)

BMW dealerships order new BMW's and put them in their Service fleet for customer loaners while their cars are in the shop. The dealer takes a depreciation on a monthly basis whether the car is on loan every day of the month or only a week out of the month. They normally hold on to a service loaner for 4 -6 months before advertising it on their site.

You won't have the best selection of colors, interior, features/options but I think in your case you may not care. They normally have between 5k - 9K miles on them when it comes time to sell it. They normally reduce the price around $500-600 for each month it spends as a service loaner. Couple that savings with your negotiated price for a nice discount on a low mileage X5.
