This is so unfortunate and I give you props for being patient with all these repairs. I really hope things get better after this repair.
Best of luck!
So here’s my dilemma. Knowing it was a bolt which was probably torqued improperly is a mechanical issue which can be resolved. It’s not another we don’t know, we did XYZ, hopefully no more failures. I’m assuming it was human error and not happy about that but is it grounds for getting them to buy it back? It’s not like zuschnell whose engine is now screwed because of no oil. The vehicle isn’t defective. Again, I welcome any and all opinions.

Thanks guys.

Given the cause of this latest incident I would agree with you in that there likely is no cause for a buyback.

Good luck and hopefully we never have a similar post from you.

I would do the same thing. Sounds like they had to pull the engine to replace the Valvetronic Unit. Let's hope they put everything else back together properly.

Unless I get overwhelming contrary opinions here and from my buddies in off topic, I’m thinking I will take it after repair is done. If no issues, the world is right. One more issue though, I am done.

I’d likely do the same, but they should offer something to make this right - seriously, after the long haul of issues, then this?

My one concern is what ‘could have’ happened due to their mistake.

Fair plan. But , drive like you stole it for 100 miles on secondary roads before any long Interstate trips.

I suppose the one thing to keep in mind, if and hopefully when, they offer you some money for loss of vehicle use, etc. is whether you'd be comfortable signing BMW's General Release document in exchange for the funds. They may try and go that route. FWIW, they tried to do that with me and I refused as it indemnified them from any past and future liability (excluding warranty) on the vehicle should your vehicle continue to have issues.

I just got off the phone with my sales guy. They stepped up to the plate right away. He said they have 2 X6MC on the floor, I could grab either of those now or change an allocation. I told him after I talked myself off the edge, I'll take mine back after the repair. If all is good, I'm good. If however another issue arises, I'm done and they will change an allocation for me. They agreed.

I also told him to make sure they don't put a newbie mechanic on this. I don't want to assume, but it sure seems that this could have been avoided.

You have every right to wonder about the mechanic issue. The drive shaft issue should have never happened.

With all you been through on the current one, any reason why you don't take the one on floor and or keep the loaner and keep the allocation. I'd be all in on a replacement if the replacement was a option

Two times would be too many already. I lost count. Did you have the SHTF 4 or 5 times already.
Sounds like you experience it already but nothings more fun than sitting on the side waiting for a tow on a hot summer day

I'm trying to be reasonable and not emotional. Just knowing that they immediately stepped up to the plate is part of it. Like I said somewhere else, the bolt thing is a fix, take it apart and put it back together. It was a mechanics screw up but it's a repair. I'm pissed but....

When I first reached out to my sales guy yesterday, it was before I knew what the issue was and I thought it was going to be another crazy thing with electronics, computers and all that stuff I don't understand and that the vehicle was defective. I was really freaked out thinking about what if it happened a few minutes later when I was kicking those 617 horses to merge onto the bridge. My sales guys is off on Tuesdays. I sent him an email explaining what happened and that I felt unsafe. Getting a thumbs up an hour after he got to work this morning means a lot. I had a month long saga with my 2010 X6 50i. It started the same way, I got stranded with CEL and drivetrain malfunctions when it was only 2 months old. They didn't know what it was. I forget the first thing they incorrectly diagnosed it as. I picked it up, it happened again. It wound up being an air intake that was previously flexible, but was changed to a hard plastic and it cracked. The part was on national backorder. They fabricated a piece so I could drive it. Once the repair was complete, everything was fine. I loved that vehicle. It's tied with my 2013 X6M as my favorite vehicle ever.

Like I said, if ANY other issue arises, I'm done and will get a new one.

Pretty rare, huh? A girl trying to be reasonable.

So i may have missed it, but you have an allocation or you are debating on taking an allocation? Does the allocation route imply a trade-in then buy ?

Crazy you two hot mess scenarios !

Ha. I was hoping you would say it ain't the right color or you just didn't like the shoes (ahem, wheels) that were on the car.

I just started reading on Page 1 through to page 2.
Yeah, the initial symptoms seem okay - cluster error, dealer drop off.
Taking o dump on the road more than once....and given a option for out, I dunno in these crazy wacky times. Ha, out here in NYC, a typical wait for a tow can take 2-4 hrs.....especially in the summer.

No, I didn't take the allocation. They gave me the option.

What is SHTF? I know shoes are wheels

I didn't like the color combos of the two on the lot. I'm also worried if I need to change an allocation that I won't get some of the options. It does seem that they tend to cater to the high priced vehicles and options are lost on the others but still. My current one came in perfect - well, you know what I mean.

I'm technically NYC also but really close to my dealer in NJ. Flat bed arrived, was loaded and gone within 40 minutes of me calling roadside assistance. I imagine it helped that I called at 6:45 am.

Would your disposition be any different if the tow occured on a bridge, on a 8 lane toll pass or on the freeway. My remark was just from the POV of reading " Your Saga" thread. It's just a car or a bolt....I'd be at least window shop the MY23 guide to see what's there or not on the options...

Regardless, hopefully it's the last tow you will need for 2022

If you take it tho, at what deal - market trade and buy at MSRP or were they cutting some deal because of the issues?

It sounded like it would be a trade for hers. Rather than a buyback, they would just let her choose a new one and they would take hers. I'm sure she will chime in and give details.

I honestly didn't ask for details once they said they'd get me out. They did the right thing when my brother had an issue on one of his 7s years ago. However they worked it out, he had no additional out of pocket and numbers remained the same. It was basically an even trade. They were already selling above MSRP when I leased this one back in August and I got a few % below MSRP. Call me naïve, but I'm sure they will do the right thing should push come to shove.

Happy Friday all. Have a safe 4th!
