Description: The argument as to what performance SUV is placed atop the performance pyramid always seems to come to an end when the BMW X5M (or X6M) enters the conversation. The burly vehicles are intimidating due to their size yet still remarkably agile and quick given their heft making them perennial kings of the category. Like their sedan sibling, the M5, however there is a bit missing when it comes to audible enjoyment. While in stock trim the exhaust note is respectable, it is held back from unleashing its true glory in the name of refinement and respectability. Dinan brings forth an exhaust upgrade that retains both these important characteristics but also allows the full chorus of all 8 cylinders to surge through the system and display their vocal talents. With Dinan the beast has found its bark… and it is glorious.

To achieve desired sound volume and tone Dinan felt becoming of the F9x X5M/X6M the tubing was enlarged to 83mm (vs 80mm stock) to allow freer flow throughout the entirety of the system. The larger tubing is fed into a muffler that is typical of all Dinan exhaust design and utilizes absorption and reactive technologies designed to improve exhaust flow and reduce backpressure. The combination results in increased power output and a great sporty sound that is civilized when you want it to be, and pleasantly aggressive under hard acceleration. This is partly courtesy of the retained computer-controlled exhaust valves that limit noise during low-speed driving and open fully during high-load conditions to allow free flow and greater sound as the bulk of the gases are bypassing the muffler. Like all Dinan exhausts, our X5M/X6M free flow exhaust is engineered to reduce low-RPM drone so the cabin of the vehicle is still intimate and not drowned in an excessively loud tone. With the Dinan exhaust equipped on the X5M/X6M you get the best of both worlds; aggressive tone/sound and civility. A combination that is quintessential of the luxury SUV with a penchant for aggressive behavior.

Sound isn't the only aspect of the exhaust that has been modified. The Dinan F9x X5M/X6M exhaust has been skillfully crafted entirely out of T304 stainless steel and TIG welded for the best visual appearance and color. The entire system is then brush finished to further guarantee an immaculate looking system out of the box. The attention to detail is not limited to parts of the system you can't see once the exhaust is installed but is also extended to the exhaust tips themselves. The Dinan exhaust sports massive, quad 4.5" (114mm) clamp-on, double-walled, black ceramic coated (or polished) and laser engraved exhaust tips that are befitting of the big Bavarian beast. The tips masterfully fill up and accentuate upon the factory cut-outs showcasing an extremely aggressive, yet refined, styling that will force people to take notice even before it is heard.

Features/Benefits:
  • Maximum gains of +6 HP and +5 ft-lb of torque
  • Enjoyably louder, sportier sound
  • Drone abatement technologies used to reduce cabin resonance
  • Four, diffuser filling, 4.5" (114mm) double-walled, polished, or black ceramic coated clamp-on tips with laser engraved Dinan logo
  • Larger diameter piping for increased flow (83mm vs. 80mm)
  • Stock exhaust valve actuators reused, and operation of exhaust valve is unchanged so exhaust tone can be adjusted via the M-drive settings
  • Computer controlled exhaust valves are retained and limit noise during low-speed driving and open fully during high-load conditions
  • Twin secondary exhaust valves are a whopping 76mm diameter, making them 30% less restrictive than the OE valves
  • 100% 304 Stainless Steel construction
  • Factory-like fitment with included mounting hardware

Do you have a video with the sounds of the f95 on a full Dinan setup ? I have decided to pull the trigger on my personal daily f95 and go with Dinan spacers, Dinan spring set, Dinan middle exhaust, Dinan axel back exhaust, and Dinan CF CAI just was wondering if you there was a video I missed where I could hear the turbo spools on the full setup currently available..... On a side note I also plan on going with the redstar downpipes (the catted primary don't throw CEL if anybody has any experience with these and can confirm please lmk)

Would just be the exhaust video here and the intake video to reference for sound that we have personally made. I am relatively sure the intake video was just the stock exhaust on it however. I remember seeing something on IG from someone that had what I think you are specifically after but I am not seeing it on a quick search. I'll keep looking and post the link if I manage to find it.

Anyone know the inlet diameter of the exhaust tips (I know the outlet is 114mm)? I'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust tip solution that is high-gloss black to match the rest of my trim.

Thanks in advance!

Still trying to get a 24' X5M in the shop to do proper validation but just based on ETK data the axleback portion is the same as prior years. Whether or not there is a change in the diffuser that causes an issue is the variable that is unknown however. Doesn't appear to be but we have been suprised before hence the desire to test before we say one way or another. The X-pipe itself is definitely different with the LCI however and will need to be developed.

Well, I do live in Destin, FL and I think you're four hours away. I may have to take one for the team and bring it up when I get mine come October.

Perfect. If we haven't gotten another vehicle by then we will gladly take you up on it in October. Just reach out via PM when you get the vehicle if you wanted to pursue and we can work something out that's convenient for all parties.

2024+ LCI axleback fitment has been confirmed. Original post has been updated to reflect the new year range as well.

The x-pipe and intake however are not carryover products but the development tweaks are well underway.

Random question for the mid and rear section of this exhaust system. I'm just curious how much weight is cut out from stock.

Did you guys happen to weigh the stock vs Dinan?

When I swapped my Audi S6 exhaust for an AWE system, there was a massive weight difference.

Effectively both are a wash in terms of weight. While the pipes/muffler themselves weigh a bit less than stock when you include all the new weight from additional clamps/tips (factory exhaust is a single piece so no clamps) its about even.

Most weight reduction in exhaust happens by gutting/simplyfying the muffler itself, eliminating resonators, or is popular on a G8x platform now -- going from a dual mid-pipe to a single. Counter to that, most aftermarket systems use thicker gauge stainless than OEM so some weight is increased on that side.

I'm not completely familiar with the S6 but from what I have seen on the APR side with a lot of Audi/VW's is that the VAG group loves to have multiple (relatively large) mufflers/resonators in their systems and more often than not you can eliminate at least one of them entirely without much derimental effect for some easy weight savings. BMW on the other hand tends to put all of their eggs into one massive/complicated muffler and typically a small(-ish) resonator more forward in the system so the opportunities for substantial weight reductions are a bit more difficult to come across unless you go titanium.

If there's enough demand, Dinan could possibly make some angled exhaust tips instead of the squared. To me, it just looks cleaner and I'm sure there are a good few that would be interested as well.

Maybe we could get a poll going on who's interested?

Direct from the factory there is not any forum discounts unfortunately. They do go on sale from time to time however (Past Memorial Day as an example).

Alternatively you can also contact some of the forum vendors here that carry the product line and sometimes they have promotions running on their end as well.
