Parking camera doesn't turn on automatically

When I pull into a parking space, I usually have to press the button to the left of the gear selector. I can't find a setting that would affect this behavior. Is this the correct functionality?

My camera does not come on until I'm well into the space and an object in front is detected (i.e. car, curb, etc.). It'd be nice if it came on sooner. For home and work I just set activation points for the camera to come on when I want it.

Yes yes yes:
I've posted this issue too. On my F15 it would come on when I got half way or so into a parking space....surround view with the parking lines, but not on the G05. Also, it is not always coming on when I pull into my garage. Sometimes it does...and sometimes not until, the nose of the car is inches from the front wall. I'm so perplexed. And yes I have the auto PDC box checked.
I've been playing around with seeing if it is affected somehow by driving mode I'm in....comfort vs. Sport. vs. Eco.....but that doesn't seem to be it. I'm not sure what has "changed" on this G05 versus F15 to make it less sensitive to surrounding objects or parking.

See pg. 250 of the manual.

Storing activation points
1. Drive to the position at which the system is to
be switched on, and stop.
2. Press the camera button (left of the gear shifter).
3. Move the Controller to the right.
4. "Add activation point".

Along the same lines, does anyone know of another way to active the camera system without pressing the P button? I always have a hard time finding that button while maneuvering through a parking lot.

Press this button, just to the left of the gear selection stick.

Edit: this is the button I was referring to in initial post. It activates the parking camera system, which is different than the "surround/panorama" view button.

Right, that's what I mean — is there an easier way of engaging that mode without pressing that button? I've tried "Hew BMW, turn on park assist" but it doesn't work. It's just hard to find that park assist button easily when maneuvering in a parking lot.

Does anyone know if surround view is available as a separate option. CR refers to it as available, but I only see it as included with parking assistance package. Thanks!

Is that for the parking camera with the multiple selectable views? Or just the forward-looking camera that takes up the whole screen? My activation points only trigger the forward-looking-only camera...

I only remember it being bundled with park assist. Rear cameras are standard in the US. Main reason I got the park assist.
