The 20s are all 275. I have staggered setup now (also preferred...rotation not needed).

I have Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3 all season in my Cayenne, excellent tires. Don't know if it has your size. Also look at AS3+, supposed to be 30% better in winter.

These are V rated all seasons, in summer as good as my P Zero summer and in winter, on par with my Pirelli Ice and Snow for my X6. Just went through 10" snow here and no problem at all. It's also much cheaper than Verde.

Saw a car on the lot the other day with 20 inch wheels and Continental brand tires with an M+S rating. I believe it had the "all season" tire package, but not positive. Nonetheless, I did not think that M+S rated tires were an option.

Got some clarification of what the M+S marking means from the Continental tire website:

Special case 4x4/SUV tires

Many SUVs and Off-road-Vehicles are equipped with tires carrying the „M+S“ marking on the sidewall. The reason for this is that this vehicle category was first offered in North America where all-season tires with „M+S“ marking are customary. Within the tire portfolio of Continental this applies for example to the product lines ContiCrossContact LX, ContiCrossContact LX Sport or Conti4x4Contact.
M+S marking is officially defined in an EU directive as meaning: “a tire with a tread pattern and structure designed to better performance in snow than that of a normal tire”. The performance of “M+S” marked tires is therefore neither defined nor measured.

The snow performance of winter tires is specified in North America with the so-called "Alpine symbol" symbol. Only tires which meet or exceed these requirements may carry the "Alpine symbol" symbol.

Continental recommendation

Even though M+S marked tires are in some European countries regarded by law as winter tires Continental recommends to use winter tires with the "Alpine symbol" on the sidewall and a tread depth of at least 4 mm in winterly conditions.

My car came with 21" 741M wheels and run flats. They are downright dangerous in the winter. There are very limited options for replacement tires.

I switched out the tires for Pirelli Scorpion Winter in 275/40/R21 on all 4 corners. The ride is great and the tires perform really well in snow and light ice.

These are the tires:

In hindsight I would have ordered my car with OEM 20" wheels.

I am planning to get after market wheels and use them for my non-winter setup.

you put 275's on the rear 21" wheels? they're much wider at 10.5in vs 9.5 up front so I bet it looks odd

It's within the wheel spec for the tire and it looks fine and handles well.

I'm going to get another set of 21's and put 275/40f, 305/35r Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's on for winter, my winter tire of choice. The sizing difference in the rear is <1% in diameter. Not the cheapest route but I like the 21's on this car.

I live in Chicago too. I just swtich back from 22” wheel staggered 275 front and 315 rear pirelli P Zeor Pz4 to my oem 741 M 20” all season tires continental this morning. It was because heavy snow yeasterday and my car spin around at the light , lucky nobody there. I did not drive fast but seem like performance tires are really poor on snow.i personally dont like RF tires because it feel more stiff and you can feel the different when change to non run flat. The good thing for run flat is you can continue driving about 80 miles. My runflat tires on previous X1 was leaking and i have to drive back to the city which is around 40 miles. However, you have to drive slowly anyway. If you have wheel and tires warranty with dealer bad thing is that you cant fix them by outside tires shop otherwise waranty will be cancel! Have to bring in any dealer which irritating.

Be safe out there!

I thought you mentioned both 740M and 741M wheel sets. I was going to buy OEM 740M wheels until I realized they're a square set up which makes no sense. in iDrive the 20" option shoes a staggered set up with 305/40 our back

Damn, I was hoping for an OEM staggered 20" set up, I have 741M 21" wheels currently and was evaluating the options

I have to admit that 20” wheel even with run flat tires drive more comfort than “22 , better acceleration IMO and gas consumption. But i still prefer 22” and overall i prefer cosmetic look over driving quality

Same here but I also like having tire choices so I figured the 21" would be popular enough for more options to come our. Time will tell if this is true

Why? The car has built in understeer. So you want square set up to fight it. You want more grip in front. Question is - What is the widest tire we can put in front before hitting wheel wells at full lock
275/45/20 square works great. Enough width. One can Compensate with stickier tires if you you have more HP(v8) and spinning tires

Smaller wheel and tire will always handle better. The lightest rims and lightest tires you can get will do wonders for handling. Unsprung weight kills it. Limiting factor is clearing brakes so we have 20 minimum with m brakes. My lightish rims in 20 with high performance non rf tires are 70lb per corner. Boat anchors. I want 50 lb

why? well, the car is rear biased quite a bit and I have a 50i which handles fine on a staggered setup. I've never been a fan of running square on BMW's, staggered looks better, and has no adverse issues with how I drive. I agree about lightweight wheels+tires but I'm not going for a 3 piece forged set and spending $10k since this isn't an M5 or 911
