Cover Plate For Non-Air Suspension X5 Question

Wasn't even sure how to word that title, sorry. I have a 2019 X5 without the adjustable air suspension. Where the rocker switches would be, there is a cover plate. I'm having a powered subwoofer installed in a few weeks and was pondering where I should ask them to mount the bass level knob. I'd like a flush-mounted, unassuming, finished look and that cover plate caught my eye.

So the question is: How hard is it to pop that cover off? Does the entire gear shift console need to come out?

Alternatively, anyone here have an aftermarket sub with a level knob? If so, where did you end up mounting it? A+++ for anyone with photos!

From what I remember, the air suspension lever assembly just pops in. You can try popping out that cover with the trim removal tool.

That would be glorious. Was looking around more when behind the wheel again and that would be a great place for the knob. Thanks for the reply.

The G80/G82 guys have been popping out a similar section and replacing it with the one that they used to include in the 2021/2022 years with the model designation. They’ve been able to pop it out with trim tools or if you aren’t looking to keep the old piece, drilling a hole in it and then using something like an Allen wrench to pull it up and out. If you are using trim tools, just be sure to tape off all the surrounding areas so as not to damage them.

However, if you are looking to put anything in there that is going to have wiring run to it, you’d likely need to pop off the entire center console area and run the wiring as necessary.

Very easy. Just use a trim removal tool.
