Doors sometimes not lock - walking away

I have my 2023 X5 eDrive set to lock the doors when i walk away.
On rare occasions it does not lock however (just noticed today when i came out from gym today).

Once in a while also it does not unlock when I get near and grab the door handle. Pretty sure remote battery was replaced recently too.

Thoughts?

I don’t have a 2023 but my Mazda CX5 used to be the same way. The trick was to close the door and THEN start walking away. If I was in a rush and started walking away as soon as I got out without the hearing the door close, it wouldn’t lock. Try and see if that works.

Mine usually works pretty well unless, for some strange reason, I happen to open the hatch before I walk away from the vehicle, then it's a hit or miss situation. I haven't figured out why it sometimes works but the hatch is always involved when it fails to lock the car, and the worst part is, that's usually when I'm carrying all 12 grocery bags and don't want to fumble around with the key fob.

My pre LCI G05 does this. It happens when hatch is opened after all the doors are closed. It sometimes happens when door stays open for a while (like loading kids).
But it does have auto lock so it will eventually lock it self after like 5-10 min.

I conducted an experiment today and your theory seems correct.

seems faster (and more assuring) to lock it yourself rather than ‘slow down’ and wait in anticipation for it to lock on its own.

I also experienced similar incidents of phantom non-locking with this feature enabled and could no longer trust it to keep my vehicle safe, so I disabled it and simply hold my finger to the door handle notches for less than 2 seconds to definitively lock it. no more worries

My pre LCI (2021) also does this. It's rare but I have noticed when it does do this, it also does not unlock when walking back up to the vehicle either. Once I start it up it seems to reset itself and be all good.
