All black everything

After picking up the sapphire black LCI w/ black 22s, I was surprised that the exhaust still had a stainless finish inside the exhaust finisher. Felt off. Silver badges had to go as well.

After seeing Keyser Soze post his diy exhaust finisher treatment, I decided to do the same with a semi gloss finish.

Used hydrodip frozen black for the badges.

I made some tiny errors but overall I’m pleased.

Love it! Wouldn’t want to own it, as I can’t afford to detail it daily! - but we’ll done. Beautiful car.

Looks good, I agree. Not sure why they’re putting chrome on otherwise blacked out trimmed vehicles.

Are there replacement adhesive kits for the badges?

It’s because the blacks all start to peel. We had this replaced several times on our X7 and this was an issue on X5 and X7 models. It was happening so much they stopped making the black ones.

to clarify, the outer edges are still black. only the insides are silver now. they didn’t use high-temp paint for those pieces like they should’ve. mine are still fine after 2.5 years, but YMMV depending on how much the ICE is used.

IND sells them in matte or gloss black. $115 or so for the X5 and I believe $115 for the xdrive 40i badge (or 50e/M60). Normally I’d just buy the badge but I felt like doing a little DIY work. Been watching too much Mat Armstrong and Tavarish I guess.

And all it took was 30 bucks worth of primer and paint to solve the problem. Shame.

Pretty sure that won’t last.

Self etching primer and engine paint for high temps…others on the forum have done it and over 1-10k miles it’s been rock solid.

I decided to take off all chrome emblems. It looks much cleaner without emblems.

My X5 is mineral white and I am debating to black them out just remove them. Part of me thinks the “xDrive” portion wouldn’t look good blacked out on white color. Can you share a photo of yours debadged?

I take them off every bmw I buy there’s too many badges and it looks tacky. I prefer zero badges. My vermilion edition came with no badges, was very excited.
