2019 vs 2020 40i

Hey guys,
Im new in here. Already saw multiple reviews on both cars, however I would like to know a recent update from the owners of those.
1. Already read that 2019 vs 2020 reliability comparison is non-sense, but according to jdpower.com they defer a bit. Will make it sense to pay a premium for 2020 if they are 'basically equal'?
2. B58 is labelled as one of the best engines from BMW, is this info still valid?
3. Does it make sense to buy an CPO? If so, can I have the possibility to extend the guarantee (as is on the new vehicles)?
4. What are the main suspicious/ 'problems' that I should check once I'm on a stand with the car?
5. Is the Air Suspension a problem? Based from what I read is a huge plus, but some people report some problems.
6. Would it make difference on the price if bought in January 2024 instead of December 2023?

Thanks a lot for the patience

1. Should be no difference in reliability between the two. The 2019s had to deal with a lot of iDrive issues but those of course went away with the updates.

2. It is arguably the best engine ever made not only BMW engines.

3. Whether or not it makes sense is up to you and how you feel about being covered. You may end up paying $1-3k more than not being CPO. I think the most important part of the process is getting the vehicle checked over by a third party no patter if it is CPO or not.

4. Nothing specific, as mentioned above it should be checked out with a pre-purchase inspection.

5. Should not be a problem.

6. One month will likely make zero difference in price.

My advice is not to look for a specific year between the two but rather the vehicle you like, has the options you want, checks out with no problems and that you can get at a price you are comfortable with.

I think I read that the 2019 B58 oil pump has plastic components, impeller and back plate, and there have been failures with the plastic from heat cycles. A dead giveaway is the oil level check won't complete due to erratic oil pressure. The pump replacement I think is on the back of the motor so it has to be pulled to be replaced. For 2020 they went back to all metal.

But I'd say these plastic components are easy fix, or can be changed to metal in 19 model - no reason to go to 2020?
