Ok so I have searched the far corners of the dark web for information on the best audio for BMWs. I have a x5 on the way with HK and am wondering what the best option is for audio quality.

Right now I use an android phone with a Dragonfly Cobalt and Tidal lossless in my 440i connected with 3.5mm cable. Not wireless but the sound quality is amazing.

With the 45e I know it does not have a 3.5 headphone line in connection but does have Android Auto. Since I have a subscription service I do not have a ripped CD sd card to plug in. I have a ton of CDs but did not want to go through that hassle.

Any audiophiles out there with any input I'd greatly appreciate it!

if you want lossless, you'll have to connect wired as you do now in your other vehicle. streaming via wireless or bluetooth will downgrade any lossless files you have that are playing.

But I don't believe they have the line in connection any longer?. Will the phone send the car lossless through the USB connection?

that's correct, there isn't a 3.5mm port. I recall connecting via USB does retain lossless, but the specifics escape me. you'll need to clarify:
- support for which format(s)?
- support when connecting to phone or hard drive or both?

(there's a few other threads in here and other models that go in more depth on this subject.)

Yes, lossless will transfer via USB better and cleaner than wireless.
Whether Thumbdrive or your phone connected via USB.

Showed it a few times to my customers whom just did audio upgrades and complained that doesn't sound that much better and have distortion.
Plugged in my FLAC collection and their Phone via USB, it sounds super clear.
