I also prefer the styling of the X6 over the X5. The only reason I'm planning on purchasing an X5 is because of the 45e. If they ever made an X6 45e, I would buy it in a heart beat.

The tail lights of the X6 are so much sleeker than the X5 and the front looks more aggressive even if you don't get the M Package.

SullyD, the X6 seems to be set in a position of "In the Eye of the Beholder", when looks are an issue (not why you posted, but what some have brought up between X6 and X5). A long time ago, I fell in love with the X6 on its first inception, ie My Eye, but could never afford. Fast Forward, I just ordered an X5 45e for my wife. First BMW since I used to borrow my dads Bavaria in the early 80's. Although I'm still driving my 98 TLC, I'm now in a position where I can get my X6 and sadly sell my TLC. However, as things go, I'm still stuck with my "Do I Really Need It?" conscience. I really hate my responsible side.
If I do/did purchase the X6, I'm not worried about Rear Headroom, Boot Space, Resale, Etc. I want it, cuz I want it. Who cares if some of my friends are 6' 5" and 300#. If they don't like it and don't fit, then they can drive
There are a lot of good Pros and Cons from all the posters, but it all comes down to you. If you want it, get it. As long as your Golf Clubs and Pony Keg fits, you're good to go

I ran across this video over the weekend, and have never seen my X6 feelings more accurately summarized than what this guy is saying.

I traded my one year old X3 for an X5 (X6 was to station wagon-ey for my taste) because my golf bag just didn’t fit in the X3. Make sure you get what you want and it meets all your needs — even though you may not know what those are!

Slightly off topic — I built my X5 because I wanted the car I wanted and its wonderful but during the process I didn’t add the performance package because I really don’t drive all that aggressively. Fast forward three months, I kind of wish I would have dropped the extra $4000 just for all wheel steering, the X5 turning radius is noticeably less then the X3 and defiantly what I’m used to in other sedans and smaller SUVs. There’s always something!

Went from a 540i to the X6 M50i. Checked out the back seat vs the X5, but the couples we have had dinner out with had no complaints. I love the styling, and I think it’s just so distinctive vs the run of the mill X5. I guess if you bought the car to carry a power washer in the back, it won’t work. But my golf clubs go just fine in the back, and I’ve had several compliments on the car so far. As to the engine - I wasn’t sure about moving up to the V8, but I have a smile every time I drive down my street.

Saw a 21 X6 on the road, had to have one, ordered one. As long as it holds my golf bag it's all good.

The x6 looks great. The x5 looks great. For my family of 5 with grandparents visiting the 5 +2 configuration won every time so got the G05.
I do look and lust at the x6 which from the back looks better (awesome) from front looks equal to x5 and from the side worse.

I went from an X5 40i to an X6 M50i. The X5 was impressive for what it is like the X6. The X6 suits me better stylistically and I wanted to get back in a V8 before they or I disappear.

I agree 110%.

I smile every time I look at my X6. When I see a X5 on the road, I see a box on wheels. A nice box, but still a box. Plus, you don’t see many X6s on the road and I like having something distinctive. The reduction in cargo space doesn’t bother me, and I bought it knowing that come time to sell or trade, I’d lose out compared to a X5. But, I bought it for me to enjoy now, not for someone else years later.

To each their own. I'm guessing this is also an age related styling thing.

When I see an X6 on the road it reminds me of the pregnant guppies I had as a kid. Some died and floated to the top of the aquarium upside down. That's what the X6 looks like to me. With wheels of course.

I'm not a fan of the X6 styling at all.

Why would you assume that age has anything to do with it?

Whenever I see an X6 now, I'm going to be thinking of my own "dead guppies" experience when I was kid...

I had an X5, I have an X6. I love the design elements on the X6, even though it sits on the same chassis as the X5, it also handles better.

X6 is a 2 am beach party, X5 is a candle lit dinner with a glass of wine. Both are enjoyable, depending what you want.

Still miss my E71 X6. On the year model I got it it had torque vectoring as standard. Did not have DHP just regular suspension. It was a 40d european model with comfort seats, leather nappa dash and high end individual audio. Still miss that car for the way it drove...For newer models DHP is a must.

Most of the people in my older age group that I talk to don't like the looks of the X6 or other manufactures cars (Mercedes GLE Coupe) that have that rounded belly bulge look.

I’m in the older age group, and I like the X6, so the premise that like/dislike is an age related thing is flawed.

my friend (also the finance manager at the dealership) liked the X5 comfort over the X6. All good things aside on his X6, he doesn't enjoy driving it because of that.

There's no difference in terms of comfort for the driver and front passenger between X5 and X6, the 2nd row has less space on the X6 vs X5, but front row is the same.

Both cars have similar suspension / wheel combinations given it's the same chassis, so comfort is identical for 1st row occupants.

I'm surprised you reply to me in such absolute terms. you can't tell him (or anyone else) he's not comfortable. comfort is subjective, no? they're his cars, his body and experiences. he specifically said he wishes he still had his X5.

Fair enough, you are right, the individual ultimately determines how comfortable they feel in a vehicle.

Let me rephrase; in terms of objective terms (that can be measured) when it comes to driver comfort, X5 vs X6:
- both cars have the same seat options
- both cars have the same wheel and tire options
- both cars have the same suspension options
- both cars have similar leg and head room in the 1st row

But:
- Center of gravity is different
- Weight is different
- Different aerodynamics
- Seat position may change due to hood/windshield slope (not sure here)

All the above are subtle and may or may not effect comfort...
