Android Auto is finally coming!!!

Wireless AA is coming to BMW models finally. I'm glad they came to their senses and will give us a choice. It's supposed to work with all iDrive 7 models, although this is BMW so who knows if that means it will work on MY19 (still iDrive 7) and onward or just the new ones from then onward

Excellent, thanks for the info. About time, I just hope even the 2020's before June will be eligible.

it's anyone's guess with how BMW has been lately. only a handful of phones support wireless AA currently. For example, my Note 10+ does but my OnePlus 7 Pro does not.

Correction as precision is important. "... so finally we can order the 2020 X5 with the promise of this feature!"

I'm an Android user, but I've never used Android auto. All I've ever done is sync my phone so I can make/receive calls, and play music.

So..... what else does it do?

Specifically, can I somehow use google maps or waze, and have it display on the screen?

With no forseeable end to the inability to have navigation (US spec car in Europe).... I'm looking for alternatives to using my phone for GPS or a garmin.

What are the advantages?

Ninefourteener I assume it is similar to CarPlay, so your map woes will be solved. Google Maps and Waze will be on your iDrive display. It's spectacular.

a Google search would answer that for you yes, Waze, Google maps, assistant etc are useable through AA and it's really nice. I mainly want to use Waze natively on the main screen.

AA has been around for a bit longer and finally had a full UI refresh. I like the aesthetics Google uses more than CarPlay (I've used it a bit). I've only used it wired, which was a good experience. Having options is great!!

I just got a new iPhone, but was considering android. So it’s probably why they have AA now. I’ll have to check it out in the wild in July. Might be a good time to upgrade. I have to look into the UI update. If it’s anything like the rest of android, you guys have much more customization.

Unlike current CarPlay, AA will integrate into the instrument cluster and HUD, making it much more competitive against iDrive nav. I am very interested, and hopefully all existing iDrive 7 cars can have it.

Just bough a P30 Lite, seems it supports AA as well. Now as everyone else mentioned, 'we wait' which might take longer than the 3 years I expect to keep the car :-)

I used AA in my C7 Corvette. It was awesome. Given BMWNA's track record I'm not holding my breath that I'll see it the X5 before my lease ends in Feb '22.

All android phones with GAPPS (Google Apps) support Android Auto, the difference here is only modern Samsung and Google Pixel phones support Wireless Android Auto. I don't see my OnePlus 7 Pro listed as supported, but that's something I know the XDA community can fix if there's no hardware limitation (there shouldn't be at all)

This is something I'm excited for, I did enjoy how my work iPhone used to bring up carplay automatically, but it also got annoying since I never liked Carplay so I disabled it.

Yes, I forgot to mention the instrument cluster and HUD integration. Apple is likely more restrictive as to what they let BMW do

Why not also offer wired AA? Wireless only has its limitations

I don’t quote understand the benefits of android auto and Apple car play

The most important is the navigation. In Apple car play, neither Apple map nor Google map supports pinch zoom.

The only reason I am using Apple car play is for the BW speaker. The interface is not convenient.
