Brake dust

This is my second m235i and both cars have had terrible issues with brake dust. I don't rally or track the car, can someone suggest pads that don't leave as much dust behind. Thanks

Performance pads dust, no way around it. I wouldn't be switching out pads if I were you, but there are many semi metallic options that will not stop as well that will dust half as much.

EBC Red are ceramic and rotor friendly with similar performance to the stock pad. I haven't used them on my BMWs, but have a set on the Volvo V70 turbo wagon. With 60% of the weight on the front wheels that thing eats front pads like crazy, the ceramic pads last twice as long and have similar or better performance than the original stock pads.

My local shop recommends Akebono Euro Ceramic pads. The trick is you have to order the pads for the 4 series grand coupe (same BMW part number for the MSport brakes). No dust, good stopping power (maybe not for the track, but definitely for daily driver). My shop says they came stock on his Porsche 911.

I was going to do these now, but since my M235 only has 4K on it (4 months mine), I have to suffer with these dang OEM dusty pads to keep the rotors under warranty for the 4 years. Well, this gives me a weekly hobby for the next 4 years every Saturday. I bought a microfiber glove from AutoZone and use that to wash the wheels, after spraying them with the wheel dust cleaner sold at Bimmerzone. Makes the cleaning job a snap, but still a pain to do each week to keep the wheels pristine.

I went for my free car wash and they actually cleaned the wheels. I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't like the dust, but I do like the brakes. Not a trade I would make.

I too can't stand the dust these pads make. After a few days my black wheels look almost gray with all the dust on them!

I have been waxing my rims with Insulator wax (marine wax) after washing the car. It seems to help for a few days. Not as much brake dust build up. Makes the intervals between washing rims a little longer.

Sell your BMW car and buy a Toyota as you don't understand why their is brake dust which means a lot better stopping and safety.

It's a frequently asked question. As others have pointed out, there are lower dust pads available that work as well for the average driver.

Has anyone ever purchased an aftermarket brake pad that was defective?

I ask because years ago I used to get these aftermarket high-performance pads from Australia and one time a pad had a hard glob of metal in the compound that as it wore destroyed my rotor. Curious if this had ever happened to anyone else.

Got them on my 228i. Swapped out the light alloy wheels for them which got brake dust just driving to get gas. Try wheel wax, it doesn't stop brake dust but it makes cleaning it off easier. Brake dust on my X3 is not an issue.

I noticed the brake dust very early on my first BMW..It would consistently ruin wash mits and get everywhere..

I then ran into a friend that does car show meets and said, "Coat the wheels..".. He suggested this.. Tried it once and never looked back.. I rarely if ever "scrub" the wheels anymore when washing.. Just hit it with Einzsett wheel cleaner, let it work and hose it off, let it dry then coat the wheels with the Armor All coating and you're done..

The new 235 is really heavy on brake dust and it's still never really an issue.. I've got the same OG wheels and they never look dull..

Give it a try.. It's worth it before changing brake pad combinations..

I got my rims powder coated gloss black about 2 weeks ago and washed my car about 7 days ago, and yesterday in the sun my wheels where looking kinda brownish/grey... i was swearing at the powdercoater thinking he fucked up the color, until i swiped my finger across a wheel, and it was black again! now i realise what you guys were talking about with brake dust.
