I got the front and rear set a couple of weeks ago and am planning on installing it myself in a couple of weeks. Car has about 2.5k miles on it including a 1500 mile road trip so brakes pretty new.

For the front, it seems like its a straight forward swap - i.e. pop out the caliper pin, slide the pads out, slide the new ones in and put the pin back. Anything else? Do I need to put the brakes in service mode somehow?

For the rears, is there a full writeup somewhere for the m sport caliper? I've read that some people had some errors with the electronic brake that required a visit to the dealer.

Edit: I have bimmercode and bimmerlink if that helps.

Thanks

Actually, front, you will need to undo the pin and remove the caliper since 6 piston caliper have bridge that blocking those pads to come out from the top.

Rear wise, since your car only 2500 miles, you don't need to touch the piston at all since it has plenty of room for the new pad to go in.

Just make sure that you pump the brake before drive.

Now that you have had the IS1500's for a couple of months, can you provide an update on performance, noise, and dusting? Thanks!!

I am on the fence between the IS1500's and IS2000's. I am looking to get rid of the school-bus-squeal and dust with minimal to no sacrifice in performance. I know the IS1500's are recommended for the cold temps in the DC area, but I might be wiling to take the chance on limited initial bite for the first few stops when temps are low!

I have the IS2000 installed. These are the ones recommended for colder temps (I'm in Canada). I went with the IS2000 for better bite, cold temps and less dust. They are great, no squeal. The dust has been cut down compared to stock about 40%-50% I estimate. If you want even less dust go with the IS1500. however, I can't speak to performance in cold weather on either.

Thanks for the info! A 40%-50% reduction would be a welcomed improvement over OEM!!

@RG Sport noticed the IS1500 (for X5M F95) are not available for order on your site? ETA? How do they compare to IS2000? (I have OCD and obviously hate dust)

IS1500 sold out.
IS2000 is better for cold climate and still low dust and no squeal. About 10% more dust than IS1500.

My car use to squeal like a nineteen seventies bus.
I install IS1500 pads 8 months ago and not a single squeak since.
One of the best things I ever did.

Hi, I finally got around to installing the IS1500 on my 45e. Only have about 150 miles since the install but I noticed bite got better during this period. The dust has noticeably reduced as well. Now that it’s colder the initial braking when reversing out of the driveway is accompanied by a loud squeal. Anyone else have this? Does it go away as they get more time to break in?

Under extreme cold condition, IS1500 may squeal on regular non-drilled rotor.
That’s why I recommend IS2000 for guys in extreme cold area.
Reversing wise, it is normal. Some stock cars with stock pads also squeal on reverse.
It is because all of the brake dust and residue piled up on the rear part of the pad and scrubbed during reverse which cause squeal. Especially on IS1500 under extreme cold.

Today our temps got up into the 50s and it still squealed really loud in reverse. I drove 20 miles on it and even then it still squealed. These pads only have a couple hundred miles on them. Do you think they need to be broken in more?

Could it also be that they need anti squeal grease on the back of the pad or need an adhesive like the OEM m sport pads have?

I thought the IS500s were just supposed to have lower bite to them when cold - not a horrendous squeal. Hoping something can be done. I will take a video of it tomorrow but def doesn’t seem normal.

Squeal while reverse is normal. Even stock pads do squeal while reversing on some M cars. But, not all will squeal.

Brake pad grease always recommended as BMW always recommend to apply brake pad grease. You didn't put some? You install them dry?

I believe I mentioned it somewhere that IS1500 may squeal too under extreme cold weather.
Maybe you haven't brake them in yet.

Squeal only from the rear I assume?
Do you have pictures how the pad installed?

I ended up taking them somewhere to have them installed because I didn’t have time to diy. I can’t be certain they used brake pad grease. Any way to check without taking the pads off? I also need to figure out if it’s coming from the front or the rear. I will try having my wife listen to it while I reverse. Will get back to you but thx for the fast reply. Regarding temps I wouldn’t consider 50 extreme cold so maybe they didn’t use grease.

How many miles on the rotors before the new pads went on the car?

The car has a total of 3k miles on it of which we did a 1500 mile road trip (750 miles each way so minimal brake usage). Another thing to note is you don’t really use the brake much on the 45e because it goes into regen mode when you let off the gas.

Here’s a video of the sound. Sounds like it’s coming from the front. I will take the wheel off and snap some pics hopefully tomorrow.

That’s horrible.
Doesn’t sound normal.
Never had that same noise ever.
Email me pictures so I can look at it closer.
Attaching in the forum won’t help since resolution is resized and I won’t be able to zoom it.

Ok I will take a bunch of pics and send it over. Thanks
