Steering wheel from Maximonia PL

I ordered a CF wheel from ebay - after 1 day of driving with it I had to return it. The contours were so sharp they were uncomfortable and the flat bottom was impractical for anything more than small turns.



In then end I just went back to my old wheel but spiced it up with M1/M2 buttons that cycle through the drive modes, CF trim and extended CF paddles.

Are the m buttons plug and play or do they need to be coded? Can they be set up like an m car with individual options or just going between the preset drive modes? Thank you.

Plug and play. Easy install.

They can only cycle through the options that the car has (sport, sport+ etc etc). Our cars don't have the individual modes like M cars, so these buttons can't give you that. I guess sport individual is the closest we get.

So, can I get them to do comfort and sport or does it have to go through eco pro? Say I wanted sport plug on m1 and comfort on m2.

Imagine the modes lined up from left to right:

Sport - comfort - eco

M1 goes left, M2 goes right.

So when I start in comfort, M1 puts me in my last used sport mode (e.g. sport+ if that's the last sport mode I was in). Pressing M1 again cycles through the 3 different sport modes. M2 puts me back in comfort.

I never use eco personally but same logic applies if pressing M2 from comfort mode.

The placement of the sport/comfort buttons by the gear lever is awful imo - you have to look down from the road to press it, not good when driving. These buttons are the perfect solution to that. For the price they were a no brainer for me.

However if you don't change modes often, they won't be of much use.

Hmmm, your eBay steering wheel look solid on the Carbon edges….may be too solid for comfort wheel…my is full leather and top and bottom is not that much flat as yours, so it may make big difference.I feel fully comfortable on turns.

Yeah, it was definitely too hard - not the CF but the contours built into the leather grips. Felt way too 'sport' and not enough luxury.

Also looking for a replacement, the OEM leather is really bad quality from BMW after 10k km wheel already became shinny

No, LCI has no heat button - it's in the menu now. So it's the same wheel as pre-LCI with heat element built in, but the trim panel is the non-button version.

I guess that’s what I meant (I own an LCI). There is no heat button in the wheel. It would be weird to end up with a pre-LCI wheel that has a heat button but doesn’t work.

Of course, if it had a heat button that did in fact work, that would be a nice treat to have (back).

Then, knowing that an LCI cannot be coded anymore at this point, I wondered if any of these considerations combine for a different wiring situation/setup/plan/offering/set of recommendations compared to pre-LCI.

When you buy a custom steering wheel you get just the bare wheel - no trim, no electrics, nothing (except if its heated it has the element built in).

So you would get a new wheel, and swap all trims and buttons and electric internals from your old wheel to the new. Everything is the same from your current wheel except the 'frame' of the wheel itself.

You have no button currently on your trim, so that would not change. To all intents and purposes you're going to put back everything thats on your current wheel.

Of course you can buy new trims at the same time if you wish, you just buy a new trim with no button.

No problem. I ended up doing extensive research into wheels, trims, paddles, electrics etc as I was ordering lots of stuff from China and had to ensure I got the correct parts. I've taken my wheel apart and rebuilt it numerous times now.
