Got it. Yes, I think that is likely possible. Will try again later with Waze in passive (e.g., not actively navigating) mode on the CarPlay screen.

No, they both can't be active for route guidance. Only one can be at any one time. It was always like that .. even with pre idrive 7.
All hes saying (i think) and the way i use Waze, is to use the BMW navigation for route guidance, but simply display the Waze map (with no guidance programmed) to see hazards, traffic and police. |

Thats right. When used like this, the Waze map will only be shown in the carplay interface which on on the main screen.

With regard to Android at least, nZtiZia and others explained it consistent with my experience. iDrive won't accomodate two navigation apps concurrently. Waze and Google Maps aren't built-in native applications -- they're displayed via a link to your phone. If I have a route working on Waze and try to open the native nav, the display reads something like "Navigation is active on [my phone]."
If I close Android Auto, thus disconnecting my phone from the car, I can use the native nav and open Waze for traffic info, alternative routes, etc. but they will only display on my phone. As for the HUD or cockpit dashboard, I get very limited mapping with Waze or Google Maps. Just upcoming turns and sometimes associated lane information. The iDrive display is comprehensive. |

From my experience in the EU, BMW navigation sucks.
1) One of the bridges in my city was closed for 2 or 3 years, but BMW was navigating me through it - and yes, I have it updated 2) It selects the worst choice of roads when I was planning my recent trip - so I defined the destination in the BMW to allow adaptive mode, but I was really using Google Maps to navigate |

I only use factory GPS for all my cross country road trips. Very accurate easy to send destinations from my phone to BMW and traffic warnings have been very accurate. Heads up display also spot on and I really never have to look at anything else.

I really should give the OE nav a try but just been spoiled by Waze. In former earlier years, I've diverted Wazes direction a few times and it was right about taking alternate routes when traffic dictated it....taking X route would add 20-35 more minutes due to current conditions.

I made the switch to the builtin Navigation a few weeks ago. I will never go back to CarPlay in this car.
I was a heavy Waze user and also what most consider an "Apple Fanboy" if that says anything. If you are good with Spotify, just use the built in app. It starts playing music almost instantly. |

On a side note: Apple Maps will also warn of speed checks and hazards. It’s just not as popular as Waze and therefore not every speed check may be in there.
But it also has fewer false positives: if Apple Maps warns me, there is usually a speed check or a driver pulled over within a couple of miles of the warning. At least in my experience. Edit: Waze won’t warn me of police if it thinks I am too fast. Apple Maps will warn me regardless of how fast it thinks I am going. |

Maybe there has being a misunderstanding. There can only be route guidance active on either BMW Nav or a Carplay navigation app (such as Waze, apple maps, or google maps) at once.
But what you can do to take advantage of some of the additional features in Carplay navigation apps, is to first set the BMW navigation route guidance to be active. Then switch the main iDrive screen to display the carplay navigation app such as Waze. Although there won't be active guidance set inside Waze, it will still show you where you are on the Waze map and warn you if there are hazards such as police or crash, etc. That way you can have the best of both worlds. The car HUD and cluster will show you the BMW NAV active guidance info. The main iDrive screen will show you the Waze map with hazards. |

I agree with this. Sending destinations is a great feature. I also prefer the BMW nav because it has much fewer interruptions and audio alerts than maps. If there is no immediate major change in route, it is mostly silent. Maps is always telling you to “stay on the route” and giving multiple audio alerts leading up to a simple turn.

People still leave the voice/audio on for nav? With so many screens, I turn that all off (for CarPlay and BMW).
