Strange 'grabbing/shudder' on reverse full lock

Hi guys,

So I'm new to the G05 but I've have X5s since the E53 also with the same wheel tyre setup (275/315) and I've noticed something weird with the new car.

On reverse - on a flat surface - and on full lock the car seems to jolt (ie. the steering wheel twitches one notch) for a second as I start to reverse left or right. The car has the M50D adaptive suspension and standard 21" wheels , so I'm not sure if it's just me not knowing the normal behaviour of the car, or of this is a known issue.

Then when the wheels are moving - theres another little shudder as the car reverses on full lock.

Car is 2019 with 100.000km. Always main dealer serviced and with no errors (at least from the car UI).

Only other (possibly irrelevant detail) was that in it's bi-annual inspection today they flagged an inbalance in the L/R braking strength (>20% but <30%). it was not a fail but they recommended checking it.

Thanks if anyone can confirm that with these fairly large tyres this happens from time to time (as was told to me by the previous owner).

Cheers, Kev

Transfer case failure. Every x5 G05 50i and other variants has had this around 20-36K mi failure. Bmw refuses to issue a recall. It is completely unacceptable and their mistake using incorrect fluid at factory. If you have warranty they will swap the fluid to mask symptoms than replace the unit in full if symptoms reappear as they will shortly after. Sometimes 8K mi later. If your out of warranty it's expensive although extended warranty should cover this as well. The failure can also progress if your changing tires not in full sets.

What he said! Well known transfer case issue in X3 and X5 and lots of posts in these forums. If fluid change does not fix it (for many it doesn't), car will need a new transfer case. Issue allegedly is that the oil in the original transfer case did not meet specs. Not sure why BMW does not issue a recall for this. It should be covered under the powertrain warranty I would think.

Thanks guys.
So far it seems to have settled. Maybe I'm hyper sensitive to every "possible" gremlin in this new very technicall sophisticated car and hearing things that could even be the road surface.

But I will keep that in mind if if rears its ugly head again.

Sorry for late replies while I;ve been travelling.

Cheers. Kev
