I use it every time I want the car to switch lanes for me.

I use this regularly, especially since the actual turn signal deactivation is so bad (it requires the wheel to return nearly all the way to straight, and often I find that if I use the actual clicked signal, the signal will stay on far longer than I would want it to). If the normal turn signal deactivation was better (eg: switched off when the turning radius relaxed, instead of staying on long beyond when the turn is done), I'd probably use the real signal more, but the bad deactivation tuning discourages me from using it.

I use flash-to-pass all the time. Is that what you're talking about? Ideally it would flash 4-5 times, but whatever, people see it anyhow and know I'm moving lanes.

Yes. Based on what I understand you are correct.

Different markets, different defaults. But, I agree, 5-blinks is much more useful than 1 or 3. Why the USA chose to not offer that option when it's already in the code, I don't know.

Then if you go to their website...you can pull up the list of supported coding specifically for your model...and you can scroll down the alphabetized list to see what codings can be done (on the easy side)...and it also tells you which module the coding will be found.

You can use that list to determine what it is you want to code...jot down the module...then when you have purchased yoru OBD II adapter and the software...start up the app and begin coding your heart out.

Here's a direct link to the supported code options for the G05 X5 & F95 X5M. The list is alphabetized so just click on the topic to see what can be done: https://bimmercode.app/cars/g05/
My question about coding is: how do you feel about coding a vehicle that’s still under warranty?
Don’t you think BMW will take every opportunity to say that whatever is wrong with the vehicle was possibly caused by coding, such that they won’t cover it under warranty?

Thanks!

I use touch for passing and set it for 3 times, not sure why the option of 1 time is for (it’s not like the 1 time swipe with the wipers that is useful also at times)?

It’s an indicator of personality.

0 time: childish and immature
1 time: a frugal person; selfish and calculating
3 times: sharp; mildly self-entitled, mildly aggressive
5 times: a kind person, but a bit boring
20 times or more: retarded

If you code something and mess up, BMW might just require you to pay to make it right again if you can't. Changing something like enabling the selection of 5 flashes of the turn signal shouldn't be an issue. Using BimmerCode in expert mode, you have a lot more opportunities to mess up, but stuff on the 'normal' menu should be safe.

You should note that if BMW ends up having to recode a module during service, every once in a while, it fails, and they have to replace the module. I've had that happen to me. But, that was a warranty issue because it happened during a service session. If something goes south and you did it, you may not be as lucky. In the USA, to deny warranty, they'd have to prove you created the problem. While it can happen, a typical coding session rarely causes something like that to happen.

No, my UK X5 has maximum of 3 blinks, my wifes UK mini has maximum of 5 blinks which has you say is much more useful, both 2023 cars.

Different markets, even within the same country. Mini drivers don't look at branded BMWs as often if they're interested in a Mini...still, why not give the user the option? And yes, I know BMW owns Mini...but there are different managers apparently with different viewpoints.

Ditto jad030060. If warranty voiding by BMW dealerships was a big issue…then there’d be lots of posts about it. But it is very rare and when we do see dealer threats about voiding warranty…it is usually due to a big screw up by the owner.

The easy coding parameters in apps like Bimmercode are not much different than swapping on aftermarket wheels that have the same size tires. The change is not anything different than what was previously installed…so if you needed new brake pads…the dealerhsip is not going to refuse the job because you have aftermarket wheels…using the same size tires as oe.

The easy coding side of Bimmercode is only giving you access for selections that are already there…but not turned on…or you may be making another selection that is already there.

Again, if you go into the expert side and screw something up then go to them to put things back…then obviously this is not going to be covered under warranty. The failure was caused by you…thus the cost should be covered by you.

Worth noting for those new, Bimmercode will not work with 2024 LCI with the new head unit at this time due to the new secure coding done by BMW.

I wish there was an option to set it at 5 blinks. 3 seems not quite enough when changing lanes.

I recently started using it and definitely 3 times is way less.

Hopefully not for you. The new encryption likely requires hardware support from the new control head and ECM and cannot be back-ported to your vehicle. So you may be safe.
